The Ark Season 3 Plot Picks Up After Homebase 1

Speaking with Bleeding Cool, Devlin explained that the season introduces characters who had been mentioned in earlier seasons without appearing on screen, and that their backstories reveal hidden conflicts even among characters the audience already knows.

The politics of the colony are changing too. Devlin noted that all of the EF characters are now intermingling with the rest of the group, since the war between the two sides is over and both must now find a way to live together. That dynamic adds a layer of tension to Homebase 1 that goes beyond the external threats the crew has faced in the past.

The search for other lost ships also opens the door to new arrivals. Devlin pointed to the discovery at the end of Season 2 that far more ships launched from Earth than the crew previously realized, meaning the people Ark One meets on its rescue missions become a major source of new characters and conflict. These additions are expected to serve as catalysts for growth among the existing cast, pushing familiar characters to adapt to new realities as the season unfolds.

Burke has also teased that the new season raises the stakes considerably. She has said that Season 3 surpasses everything the show has done before, calling it genuinely the best season yet. Whether that assessment holds up will likely become clear as the weekly episodes roll out through the fall.
