The Boys is based on the comic books by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. Eric Kripke developed it for TV, and it’s produced by Sony Pictures Television along with a few other production companies, including Point Grey Pictures and Kripke Enterprises.

In this final season, many of the main actors will be back, including Karl Urban playing Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie, Antony Starr as Homelander, Erin Moriarty as Starlight, and Jensen Ackles, who returns as Soldier Boy in a regular role.

The fifth season was announced in May 2024. Just a month later, Kripke confirmed it would be the last one. On Twitter, he wrote, “#TheBoys Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season! … Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax.” He said the show was always meant to last five seasons and that the story won’t continue after this. He called the last season “the show’s version of the apocalypse.”

Kripke also talked to Deadline Hollywood about the ending. He said he already knows how it will finish and where the characters will be six months later. He said, “When we’re up there shooting and when we really wrap for that last time, that’s gonna be a mess.” This tells us the final season will be emotional and intense.

Fans can expect a lot of big moments and action, especially with Jensen Ackles back as Soldier Boy. At San Diego Comic-Con, Kripke said Soldier Boy will play a big part in the last season, with “a lot of good father-son emotion” between him and Homelander. He also described the season as “really, like, epic.”

Filming started in late November 2024 and went on until mid-2025. Jensen Ackles finished his scenes on June 10, 2025, and the whole cast wrapped up on July 1, 2025. Some photos leaked during filming showed intense scenes, including internment camps set up by Homelander.

The final season will also include storylines connected to the spinoff show Gen V, making the plot even richer.

Even though the release date hasn’t been shared yet, fans of The Boys can look forward to an exciting and dramatic ending. The cast’s recent photo recreation reminds everyone just how close they’ve become and how special this journey has been for them.
