The Complete Viewing Order for Every ‘Chicago Fire’, ‘Chicago Med’ and ‘Chicago P.D.’ Crossover
NBC counts sixteen One Chicago crossover events as of April 2026, but only some of them bring ‘Chicago Fire’, ‘Chicago Med’ and ‘Chicago P.D.’ together inside a single storyline. Those are the events that reward a careful viewing order, and they are the focus here.
This guide lays out the full ‘Chicago Med’, ‘Chicago Fire’ and ‘Chicago P.D.’ crossover order in release sequence, noting which series opens each story and which one closes it. Wolf Entertainment points to 2016 as the year of the very first three series crossover. Two series stories between ‘Chicago Fire’ and ‘Chicago P.D.’, such as “A Dark Day” and “8:30 PM” in the April 2014 event, are left out.
The Beating Heart
The first three series crossover begins with ‘Chicago Fire’ season 4 episode 10, “The Beating Heart”, moves to ‘Chicago Med’ season 1 episode 5, “Malignant”, and concludes with ‘Chicago P.D.’ season 3 episode 10, “Now I’m God”. That is the starting point for anyone watching from the beginning.
In the opening installment, a member of Firehouse 51 is treated for life-threatening injuries while Cruz searches for Freddie. The second installment picks up the thread, as Rhodes and Zanetti race to save a member of Firehouse 51 and a woman rescued from a burning building leads to a bigger mystery.
The finale closes the story with an investigation into a doctor connected to Voight after four patients with chemo overdoses are sent to the hospital. Platt and Burgess also work to clear Roman’s name.
Going to War
The next three show event opens with ‘Chicago Fire’ season 7 episode 2, “Going to War”, continues with ‘Chicago Med’ season 4 episode 2, “When to Let Go”, and ends with ‘Chicago P.D.’ season 6 episode 2, “Endings”. The season page for the finale confirms it concludes a crossover that begins on “Going to War” and continues on “When to Let Go”.
The story starts when Firehouse 51 fights a raging fire on the 20th floor of a residential high-rise where Jay and Will Halstead’s father lives and has gone missing. In the midst of the chaos, Brett learns unsettling information about her new partner.
At the hospital, the high-rise fire floods the emergency department with victims, including the Halstead brothers’ father, while Rhodes must save the life and career of Stella Kidd. The finale then has Intelligence joining forces with Firehouse 51 after the fire is ruled arson, with Halstead struggling to stay objective because of his tragic connection to it.
Infection
Wolf Entertainment dates the “Infection” crossover to 2019. It began with “Infection, Part I” on ‘Chicago Fire’, continued with “Infection, Part II” on ‘Chicago Med’ and concluded with “Infection, Part III” on ‘Chicago P.D.’ Those are season 8 episode 4, season 5 episode 4 and season 7 episode 4 in that order.
The storyline follows an infection spreading across Chicago and the first responders dealing with the repercussions. In the opening installment, a rare but deadly bacteria takes its toll on victims around the city, and responders work alongside the CDC while Severide suspects something bigger is happening.
The middle installment turns to Dr. Manning’s actions with a recent patient leading to serious repercussions. The finale follows a manhunt for a suspect responsible for bioterrorism, with Upton torn between the chase and caring for a scared young girl.
In the Trenches
This crossover aired on January 29, 2025, and was the first in five years. It begins with ‘Chicago Fire’ season 13 episode 11, “In the Trenches, Part I”, moves to ‘Chicago Med’ season 10 episode 11, “In the Trenches, Part II”, and concludes with ‘Chicago P.D.’ season 12 episode 11, “In the Trenches, Part III”.
The official logline describes a gas explosion that rocks a high-rise, with first responders rescuing hundreds of civilians before racing to save 40 people trapped deep underground, including two of their own. The broadcast order shifted for the event, with ‘Chicago Fire’ at 8 p.m., ‘Chicago Med’ at 9 p.m. and ‘Chicago P.D.’ at 10 p.m., and the episodes streamed the next day on Peacock. Wolf Entertainment executive Anastasia Puglisi described the project as essentially a three-hour action movie.
In the second installment, Ruzek and Kidd treat injured passengers after the subway tunnel collapse while Archer and Frost perform a life-saving amputation. The finale follows the investigation into the explosion alongside the Chicago Fire Department, where a terrible secret is uncovered, while Platt recovers from her shooting.
Reckoning
The newest entry aired on March 4, and the last crossover before it came in January 2025. The order runs through ‘Chicago Fire’ season 14 episode 13, “Reckoning, Part I”, ‘Chicago Med’ season 11 episode 13, “Reckoning, Part II”, and ‘Chicago P.D.’ season 13 episode 13, “Reckoning, Part III”.
The opening installment has Firehouse 51 called to an airfield when a passenger jet suddenly goes silent mid-air. The second hour sends the Gaffney doctors racing to unravel a baffling medical mystery linked to the jet, and the finale pushes Intelligence into a high-stakes pursuit of the culprit under the eye of the FBI. The night ran in the same shifted order as the previous event, with ‘Chicago Fire’ at 8 p.m., ‘Chicago Med’ at 9 p.m. and ‘Chicago P.D.’ at 10 p.m.
The event brought back Jesse Lee Soffer and Tracy Spiridakos as Halstead and Upton. It also carried a major loss, as Macy Vasquez dies along with more than a hundred plane passengers exposed to a chemical agent. In an interview with TV Insider, ‘Chicago Fire’ showrunner Andrea Newman said the death is meant in part to motivate Stella Kidd and push her growth.
NBC confirms the crossover airs as one continuous narrative from ‘Chicago Fire’ to ‘Chicago Med’ to ‘Chicago P.D.’, without standalone storylines, so skipping a part leaves a gap. If you have followed every chapter from “The Beating Heart” to “Reckoning”, the comments are the place to say whether Macy Vasquez’s loss makes the newest crossover the hardest one to rewatch.
