‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ Is Still Warner Bros.’ Most Recent $100 Million Domestic Hit
When ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ opened in September 2025, it looked like the high point of a remarkable run for Warner Bros. Billed as the final chapter for Ed and Lorraine Warren, the fourth mainline ‘Conjuring’ movie brought Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga back for one last case under director Michael Chaves.
The film arrived with momentum behind it. At the time, Warner Bros. was on a historic streak, and ‘Last Rites’ extended the studio’s run of consecutive releases opening to $40 million or more domestically to 8, a streak that began with ‘A Minecraft Movie’ that April.
‘Last Rites’ delivered a franchise-best $84 million domestic opening, with Empire reporting a global debut of $187 million. That beat ‘The Nun’ for the biggest opening in the ‘Conjuring’ universe, and it also topped ‘IT: Chapter Two’ as the biggest horror opening outside the U.S.
The film went on to earn $177.8 million domestically and nearly $500 million worldwide. With a reported $55 million budget, it was a major win for the studio. More than a year later, that film still holds an unwanted distinction. According to The Hollywood Handle, ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ remains the last Warner Bros.
film to cross $100 million at the domestic box office, meaning the studio has now gone 13 months without another release reaching that mark. Box office analyst Gitesh Pandya pointed out that no new Warner Bros. film has even reached $90 million domestically in that time. It’s a striking turnaround for a studio that was setting records just a year earlier.
Warner Bros hasn’t had a single film cross the $100M mark domestically in 13 months. Last film was ‘The Conjuring 4’. https://t.co/ez0kimn7Vx

TheWrap also reported that as of late October, no Warner Bros. film had grossed more than $250 million worldwide this year. The studio’s biggest disappointment came from DC Studios’ ‘Supergirl’. Starring Milly Alcock, the film opened to $38 million in June and finished with $72.4 million domestically and $126.4 million worldwide against a reported budget of $170 million to $186 million.
Tom Cruise’s ‘Digger’, from director Alejandro González Iñárritu, had an even rougher run. It opened to just $8 million in October and has earned about $18 million in the U.S. so far. DC Studios’ ‘Clayface’ has offered better news. Made for about $40 million, the horror-leaning film opened to $24 million domestically in late October, earned an “A-” CinemaScore, and has passed $80 million worldwide.

TheWrap noted that it’s the studio’s first release under Skydance ownership. Still, with about $44 million domestically so far, it’s unlikely to come close to the $100 million mark. The studio is now looking to its upcoming slate to turn things around.
DC Studios is building toward 2027, with ‘Man of Tomorrow’ leading the way. Until then, the Warrens’ final case remains Warner Bros.’ last true domestic blockbuster. If nothing changes soon, the drought could stretch even longer.

Which upcoming Warner Bros. release do you think has the best chance of becoming its next $100 million domestic hit?
