The world of The Devil Wears Prada is making a comeback, and filming for the sequel has officially started. Fans will be happy to know that Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are all returning to their roles.

Joining them this time is Kenneth Branagh, who will play the husband of Miranda Priestly, Streep’s iconic character. This update was shared by Disney’s 20th Century Studios on Instagram, along with a teaser image of two striking red pumps.

The first movie, which came out in 2006, was based on a book by Lauren Weisberger. It told the story of Andy Sachs, a young journalist who lands a job at a fancy fashion magazine called Runway.

Her boss, Miranda Priestly, is tough and demanding. The story was inspired by Weisberger’s own experience working for Anna Wintour at Vogue.

Nearly two decades later, the sequel picks up with Miranda facing a changing world where print magazines are losing ground. She needs advertising money from a luxury fashion group, but the twist is that her former assistant, played by Emily Blunt, now works there as a top executive. This sets up a new rivalry between the two women.

Anne Hathaway’s character, Andy Sachs, is still a mystery in this new story. At the end of the first film, she left Runway to work at a newspaper. It’s not clear if she will return to the fashion world or stay away.

The original director, David Frankel, and writer, Aline Brosh McKenna, are both coming back for this sequel. The movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 1, 2026.

Interestingly, this announcement comes just after Anna Wintour revealed she is stepping down as editor-in-chief of Vogue after 37 years. This real-life change makes the sequel’s story about the fashion world feel even more relevant today.

As the famous line from the first movie says, “Gird your loins.” The sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is on its way.
