Netflix has just released the official trailer for The Sandman Season 2: Volume 2, and it’s giving fans a first look at the final chapter of Dream’s journey. The last part of the fantasy series is set to arrive on July 24, 2025, with one final bonus episode dropping on July 31.

The Sandman is a fantasy drama show based on Neil Gaiman’s popular comic book series that ran from 1989 to 1996.

The show was created for Netflix by Gaiman, David S. Goyer, and Allan Heinberg. It stars Tom Sturridge as Dream, also known as Morpheus, and features Boyd Holbrook, Vivienne Acheampong, and Patton Oswalt in supporting roles. The series is produced by DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television.

Bringing The Sandman to the screen has been a long and rocky road. Back in 1991, there were early plans to turn it into a movie, but those didn’t work out. In 2013, Goyer pitched the idea for a film again, and both he and Gaiman were ready to produce it, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt attached to star and possibly direct.

But things fell apart in 2016 when Gordon-Levitt left due to creative disagreements. After that, Warner Bros. decided it made more sense as a TV series instead of a movie. Netflix came on board in June 2019, and the first season was filmed between late 2020 and August 2021.

The first season premiered on August 5, 2022, with all ten episodes released at once. A surprise bonus episode came out two weeks later. Critics responded well, praising the visuals, the performances, and how faithful it was to the original comics. In November 2022, Netflix announced a second season. It was later confirmed in January 2025 that Season 2 would be the final season of the series.

Season 2 is being split into two parts. Volume 1 came out on July 3, 2025. Now, fans are looking forward to Volume 2, arriving July 24. The final bonus episode will be available on July 31.

Filming for the second season started in June 2023 at Shepperton Studios in the UK. Production was briefly paused because of the SAG-AFTRA strike that same summer. Neil Gaiman confirmed in November 2023 that filming had resumed, and by August 2024, it was complete.

So far, reviews for Season 2 have been mixed to positive. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 75% approval rating from 20 critics. The site’s summary reads: “The Sandman’s second season occasionally meanders like a half-remembered dream, but Tom Sturridge’s ethereal performance continues to give this fantasy heft.” On Metacritic, it scored 61 out of 100 based on 11 reviews, showing mostly favorable reactions.

Fans of the show and of the original comics are eager to see how Dream’s story ends. With the newly released trailer for Volume 2, Netflix is setting the stage for a powerful conclusion to a series that’s taken decades to bring to life.
