The new Fantastic Four movie, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, has quickly become a huge hit, beating all previous Fantastic Four films in box office earnings just 10 days after its release.

This 2025 superhero film is part of the MCU and marks the second reboot of the Fantastic Four series. Directed by Matt Shakman, the movie features stars like Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn playing the superhero team. The story is set in a cool 1960s retro-futuristic world where the Fantastic Four must fight to stop the cosmic villain Galactus, played by Ralph Ineson, who threatens to destroy planets.

According to the latest numbers, as of August 3, 2025, The Fantastic Four: First Steps has earned $198.4 million in the United States and Canada. In other countries, it made an additional $170.3 million, bringing the worldwide total to an impressive $368.7 million. This means it has outperformed every Fantastic Four movie ever made.

The movie had a very strong opening weekend, making $56.1 million in North America alone, showing in 3,602 cinemas. This was enough to top the box office during that weekend. For comparison, the original Fantastic Four film from 2005 made $330.6 million worldwide during its entire run, with $154.7 million coming from the U.S.

That movie was the highest-grossing superhero film directed by an African-American director until Black Panther came out in 2018.

The 2005 Fantastic Four opened with $58 million during its first weekend, slightly more than First Steps by about $2 million. However, it quickly lost momentum, dropping 66% in its second weekend and 54% in the third. It ended with a global total of $301.9 million on a $130 million budget.

Another earlier Fantastic Four film, released in 2015, made $56.1 million in North America and $111.8 million internationally, for a worldwide total of $167.9 million. That movie had a production budget of $120 million but was still considered the lowest-grossing Fantastic Four film released in theaters.

With these numbers, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is clearly the most successful film about the team so far. Fans and critics alike are excited about the fresh take on the characters and the story. The combination of strong acting, a well-crafted story, and modern effects seem to have paid off.
