The Full ‘Klara and the Sun’ Cast (With Photos)
The ‘Klara and the Sun’ cast is led by Jenna Ortega, Amy Adams and Mia Tharia, with Aran Murphy, Steve Buscemi and Natasha Lyonne also starring. The film is directed by Taika Waititi and based on the novel by Nobel Prize winning author Kazuo Ishiguro.
The London premiere took place at the BFI London Film Festival on October 15 and drew much of the ensemble to the red carpet. Here is a closer look at the full ‘Klara and the Sun’ cast and the characters each actor plays.
Jenna Ortega

Ortega plays the title character, an Artificial Friend who wants nothing more than to find the perfect home. Her Klara is an outdated model whose sell by date is approaching when Josie and her mother buy her. Ortega said at the world premiere that the story felt very timely.
Amy Adams

Adams plays Chrissie, the mother of Josie. Her character has a fraught relationship with her daughter, and the family has suffered great loss. The role casts the six time Oscar nominee as a protective mother.
Mia Tharia

Tharia plays Josie, a bright teen who adores her new robot companion but suffers from a mysterious illness. She was one of two newcomers announced alongside Murphy when the cast first took shape. Josie and Klara immediately sense a kindred spirit in one another.
Aran Murphy

Murphy plays Rick, Josie’s best friend and next door neighbor. The part marks his feature film debut, and he is the son of Oppenheimer Oscar nominee Cillian Murphy.
Natasha Lyonne

Lyonne plays the manager of the store that sells Artificial Friends. In the trailer she gives the waiting robots practical pep talks meant to lift their mood.
Steve Buscemi

Buscemi is listed as Capaldi, a benefactor. Ahead of release, his role was described as undisclosed. His place in the cast was revealed in August 2024.
Rachel House

House plays Melania, the housekeeper. She works in the household of Chrissie, Josie’s mother.
Harry Greenwood

Greenwood appears in a role that had not been disclosed ahead of release. He is named among the supporting players in coverage of the London premiere.
Simon Baker

Baker was cast as Josie’s father Paul, but his scenes were cut from the film. Critical reaction following the premiere showing was largely negative.
With early reviews leaning that way, do you think Ortega’s Klara and this supporting ensemble can win audiences over when ‘Klara and the Sun’ reaches cinemas?
