‘The Gilded Age’ Season 4 Gets Official Trailer and Premiere Date
Few period dramas deliver drama in quite the same opulent fashion as ‘The Gilded Age’, the Emmy-nominated HBO series from ‘Downton Abbey’ creator Julian Fellowes. Set among the old money and new money of 1880s New York, the show has built a devoted following thanks to its lavish costumes, sharp rivalries and a cast packed with Broadway talent.
Season 3 ended with a major rupture for the Russell family. Bertha, played by Carrie Coon, and George, played by Morgan Spector, reached a breaking point after Bertha’s handling of their daughter’s betrothal to the Duke of Buckingham, leaving fans eager to see the fallout.
Now HBO has released the official trailer for Season 4, which premieres Sunday, November 1 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max. The new season will run for 8 episodes.
The preview teases an uncertain future for several fan-favorite couples. Bertha is shown desperately trying to repair her marriage to George, while the van Rhijn household prepares for the arrival of President Grover Cleveland.
The official logline makes clear that Bertha’s rise came at a price. Her family must now face the consequences of how she reshaped Society, while Agnes van Rhijn sees a chance to win back her standing.

Meanwhile, Marian is forging a new path for herself, and Peggy is working hard to win over her future in-laws. The season’s guiding warning is simple: in this new era, be careful what you wish for.
The younger characters have their own storylines to navigate. Marian, played by Louisa Jacobson, and Larry Russell, played by Harry Richardson, appear to have found love with each other.
Peggy, played by Denée Benton, may have found happiness with Dr. William Kirkland, played by Jordan Donica. However, the trailer hints that their engagement could be threatened by their individual professional ambitions.
The trailer is packed with appearances from the show’s stars, including Christine Baranski and Cynthia Nixon alongside Coon and Spector. The wider cast includes Audra McDonald, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Kelli O’Hara, Donna Murphy, Debra Monk, Celia Keenan-Bolger and Ben Lamb.

Season 4 also features Dennis Haysbert, Jim Gaffigan, Bonnie Milligan, Andrew Burnap, Elizabeth Marvel, Adrienne Warren, Bill Camp and Phylicia Rashad, among many others. It’s an ensemble that continues to read like a who’s who of the theater world.
Fellowes returns as creator, writer, and executive producer. Salli Richardson-Whitfield serves as director and executive producer, while Sonja Warfield is a writer and executive producer.
Gareth Neame, David Crockett, Bob Greenblatt, Kate Churchill, Davita Scarlett and Elaine Aronson are also executive producers. The series is a co-production between HBO and Universal Television.
The new season isn’t the cast’s only project this fall. Many of the show’s Broadway veterans are putting their voices to work on ‘Voices of the Gilded Age: The Christmas Album’, a holiday release that should delight fans who have long wanted to hear the ensemble sing.
As with any new trailer, reactions online have been mixed. While many fans are thrilled to return to the drawing rooms of New York, at least one viewer on X joked that the show is simply another season of wealthy people complaining in ballgowns.

Still, Collider called the series a near-perfect replacement for ‘Downton Abbey’ and praised the new trailer. With Bertha’s marriage in jeopardy and a presidential visit on the horizon, the stakes seem higher than ever for the city’s elite.
‘The Gilded Age’ Season 4 arrives on November 1, with episodes airing on HBO and streaming on HBO Max. Whether Bertha can save her marriage and whether Agnes can reclaim her place in Society, will be the big questions hanging over the new season.
Do you think Bertha and George can save their marriage in The Gilded Age Season 4?
