Jennifer Lawrence spent years staying away from social media. That changed in September, when she joined Instagram under the handle @jlaw, explaining in her bio that “jenniferlawrence was taken.”

Her arrival got plenty of attention. In her first video, she said she was giving the platform a shot but warned that she would quit immediately if anyone said anything negative, and she launched with about 1.5 million followers before quickly climbing toward 2 million.

Lawrence has now used her new platform to post about the midterm elections. As Film Updates shared, she posted an image on Instagram with the caption “Midterms BB. Don’t forget who burns with us.”

The post includes a link to vote.org’s polling place lookup tool. The image shows Lawrence walking down a city street in a white graphic T-shirt, red pants, and a denim jacket, raising 3 fingers in the air.

Fans immediately recognized the gesture. It mirrors Katniss Everdeen’s famous salute from ‘The Hunger Games’, and posts comparing the image with a still of Lawrence as Katniss quickly spread online. Lawrence’s connection to Katniss still runs deep with fans. Her time as the District 12 heroine made her one of the most recognizable stars of her generation.

The franchise is back in the spotlight this month. ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ opens in theaters on November 20, and reports from last December said Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are expected to reprise their roles as Katniss and Peeta in the prequel.

Lawrence’s influence can be seen across the new film’s press tour. Mckenna Grace, who plays Maysilee Donner, has worn several looks that pay tribute to Lawrence and Katniss. Those include a white gown inspired by Katniss’ wedding dress from ‘Catching Fire’ and a red gown that recalls the Calvin Klein dress Lawrence wore to the Oscars.

Grace has said Lawrence is her favorite actress and called her looks an homage to everyone who came before her in the franchise. Lawrence’s time on Instagram has been light-hearted. She followed accounts including Miss Piggy, her co-star Josh Hutcherson, and the Kardashians.

Her profile picture shows her sitting under a pile of hair foils while drinking something. She also leaned into a viral moment from the 2026 LVMH Prize ceremony in Paris, where she accidentally mixed up her words while presenting, by simply commenting “Oops.”

She later joked in her Instagram story that mean comments could negatively affect “the baby,” before revealing that the baby was her. Her playful tone has made her a hit with followers.

Beyond Instagram, Lawrence has several projects underway. She is reportedly developing a movie about Miss Piggy with her friend Emma Stone, with Cole Escola involved in writing it.

Her midterms post shows she’s willing to use her new platform for more than jokes. By referencing one of her most iconic roles, she found a way to connect with fans who grew up with Katniss.

The post sparked plenty of discussion among her followers. Many fans praised the clever ‘Hunger Games’ reference, while others focused on the nostalgia of seeing Lawrence recreate the famous salute.

With ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ just weeks away, Lawrence’s nod to Katniss arrives at a time when interest in the franchise is already high. It’s a reminder of how much the character still means to audiences.
