The Hunger Games franchise is back with a new chapter. The upcoming film, Sunrise on the Reaping, is set to be released in the United States and Canada on November 20, 2026, including IMAX screenings.

The movie is based on Suzanne Collins’ 2025 novel of the same name and will act as both a sequel to The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023) and a prequel to the original Hunger Games from 2012. It will be the sixth film in the popular series.

Fans got their first glimpse of the new story when the official trailer and poster were released on Hunger Games social media accounts.

Francis Lawrence, who directed previous Hunger Games movies, is returning to direct, with a screenplay by Billy Ray. Principal photography started in late July in Spain, with filming taking place in Somiedo and Teverga, according to Lionsgate Films.

Other confirmed cast members include Whitney Peak, Jesse Plemons, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, Elle Fanning, Kieran Culkin, Lili Taylor, Billy Porter, Glenn Close, and Ralph Fiennes. New actors have also joined the series to portray the tributes, including Molly McCann, Iona Bell, and Percy Daggs IV, who plays Ampert Latier, the son of Beetee from District 3.

Sunrise on the Reaping is shaping up to deliver the familiar mix of high-stakes drama and action that fans have come to expect from the franchise. With production underway and promotional materials already out, viewers have their first look at the new characters, the upcoming games, and the intense world of Panem.
