‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ Unveils a Dazzling New Look for New York Comic Con
The road back to Panem is nearly complete. ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’, the sixth installment in the blockbuster franchise, is scheduled to hit theaters and IMAX on November 20, and Lionsgate’s marketing campaign is now in full swing.
Directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Billy Ray and Michael Lesslie, the film adapts Suzanne Collins’ 2025 novel. It serves as both a sequel to ‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes’ and a prequel to 2012’s ‘The Hunger Games’, returning audiences to Panem 24 years before Katniss Everdeen’s story.
With the release just weeks away, fans have a striking new piece of artwork to obsess over. Lionsgate has revealed a commemorative New York Comic Con poster for the film, created as part of an immersive Panem experience at the convention.
The new poster is packed with detail. Its ornate collage stacks the film’s characters among bursts of purple flowers, weapons, butterflies, and Capitol-style imagery, with a white-haired figure looming in profile at the top.
The design has a lavish, almost baroque feel that matches the excess of the Capitol. It also proudly displays the November 20 release date alongside the IMAX and New York Comic Con branding. Fans attending the convention can actually take one home. The first 100 guests who line up each day at the film’s NYCC experience will receive the commemorative poster.

The poster is just one part of Lionsgate’s Comic Con plans. The studio is bringing ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ Experience to New York, an immersive pop-up designed to transport attendees straight into Collins’ world.
Guests will be drawn into the spectacle surrounding the Games, including oversized digital key art and a Caesar Flickerman stage experience inspired by the broadcasts seen throughout Panem. Photos captured during the visit will be turned into ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’-inspired artwork and sent to guests as a personalized digital takeaway.
According to Lionsgate, the goal was to give New York Comic Con fans a Panem experience they would remember and want to share. The film tells the origin story of one of the franchise’s most beloved characters. It follows a young Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada, who is selected to compete in the 50th Hunger Games, long before he became District 12’s mentor.

Those Games are also a Quarter Quell. Every 25th edition of the Hunger Games adds a special twist to the rules, raising the stakes for Haymitch and his fellow tributes. The cast is stacked with talent. Mckenna Grace plays Maysilee Donner, while Jesse Plemons, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Maya Hawke, and Whitney Peak also star.
Kelvin Harrison Jr. joins as Beetee Latier, the victor of the 34th Hunger Games from District 3, whose son Ampert is competing in the Games. The role was previously played by Konstantin Taffet in ‘The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes’.
The NYCC poster follows a major wave of promotion last month. On September 17, Lionsgate debuted a brand-new trailer and fresh poster artwork for the film. With just over a month until release, fans can likely expect more surprises from the campaign. For now, this vibrant Comic Con poster is a strong reminder that the Games are almost ready to begin again.
