A new film from A24 is getting attention after the release of its first trailer. The movie, The Invite, is directed by Olivia Wilde and features a strong cast that includes Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton. The film is set to arrive in theaters in a limited release on June 26.
The story centers on a married couple going through a rough time. Things take a turn when they invite their neighbors over for dinner. What starts as a simple evening slowly becomes something much more complicated. According to the official description, the night could either bring them closer or push everything to the breaking point.
The script was written by Will McCormack and Rashida Jones. The film mixes drama and comedy, with much of the tension building during the dinner setting.

During a Q&A at the festival, Norton spoke about working on the film and praised Wilde’s work both in front of and behind the camera. He said, “Seth and I both have directed films that we’ve been acting in as well. Inevitably, you come to moments where you say, ‘This was a terrible decision.’” He continued, “It’s hard for me to overstate the grace and wisdom with which Olivia gave that performance and directed us.”
The film has also received early praise from critics. Variety’s chief film critic described it as a “bravura dinner-party dramedy” that keeps surprising the audience.
This marks Wilde’s third film as a director, following Booksmart and Don’t Worry Darling. She also appears in the movie as part of the main cast.
With a runtime of 107 minutes and an R rating, the film is produced by David Permut, Ben Browning, and Megan Ellison.
This film stands out because it focuses on a simple situation and builds tension from it. That kind of story can be very effective if done right. The cast also makes it more interesting. What do you think about the trailer and the story? Share your thoughts in the comments.
