The Last Kingdom Feature Film In Development By Netflix

Although the upcoming fifth season of The Last Kingdom will be the last season of the show, fans don’t need to worry about leave-taking the franchise. As reported by Deadline, a feature film based on historical drama is in the works by Netflix.

Alexander Dreymon, an actor and executive producer of the show announced the 2-hour feature movie, titled Seven Kings Must Die, at London MCM Comic-Con. Filming is set to begin next year before the fourth season of the show premieres on Netflix. Dreymon is confirmed to return as Uhtred.

“It’s been such a privilege to tell Uhtred’s story for five seasons. I’m so grateful to our fans. They have been immensely loyal to The Last Kingdom and thanks to their support, the team is getting together for another round.”

The Last Kingdom Season 5 will conclude the show, but the producer Nigel Marchant said “there was always one more story that we wanted to tell.” Well, good thing they’ll have the chance to tell that story now.

The Last Kingdom started back in 2015 on BBC Two, where the first two seasons, consisting of 8 episodes each, aired. Starting with season 3, the show moved to Netflix.

The show is based on a series of novels The Saxon Stories written by Bernard Cornwell. Season 5 of the show is set to premiere in 2022.
