The Little Mermaid: Disney Revealed Teaser Trailer for the Live-Action Remake at D23 Expo
Disney company has found its golden cow in live-action remakes of their animated classics. The live-action remake of The Lion King grossed more than $1.6 billion worldwide, and remakes of Aladdin and The Beauty and the Beast also passed a billion dollars mark. Although most of the audience finds those remakes needless and a sole cash-grab, Disney’s formula apparently still works, so now they’re preparing for the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.
At the recent presentation at D23 Expo, Disney revealed the first teaser trailer, which you can watch down below:
“The Little Mermaid, visionary filmmaker Rob Marshall’s live-action reimagining of the studio’s Oscar®-winning animated musical classic, opens exclusively in theaters nationwide May 26, 2023. “The Little Mermaid” is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.” — The Little Mermaid, official synopsis
The original animated classic was released in 1989. The movie received critical acclaim and it became one of the most beloved animated movies of all time. The movie grossed $235 million against the production budget of $40 million.
The live-action remake will star Halle Bailey as Ariel, a titular mermaid, and the remake also stars Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina, Jonah Hauer-King, Art Malik, Javier Bardem, and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, the main villainess. The movie is directed by Rob Marshall, who directed the Disney movies Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Mary Poppins Returns.
The Little Mermaid live-action remake is set to be released on May 26, 2023.
