‘The Middle’ and ‘Friends’ Star Pat Finn Dies at 60 – Cause of Death Revealed
Pat Finn, known for his roles on The Middle and Friends, has died at the age of 60 after a battle with cancer.
According to TMZ, Finn passed away on Tuesday, December 24, at his home in Los Angeles, surrounded by his family.
Comedian Jeff Dye shared a heartfelt tribute on X, saying, “I don’t like to be the guy who post pics with celebrities that pass. But this guy wasn’t just a celebrity to me. He was a friend.” Dye added, “One of the best dudes I knew with a PERFECT sense of humor. I love you Pat Finn and I’ll see again in the after, we can sing together and shake our heads about all the meannes in the used to be.”
Finn began his career in comedy alongside his close friend Chris Farley. The two met on the rugby team at Marquette University in 1987 and later became roommates in Chicago while performing with the Second City comedy troupe.
Reflecting on his early career in a 2022 interview, Finn said, “I used to go there and almost study it. Why did that laugh work? Why did that song work? Why did they do this scene? I was like a baseball player rewatching a game.”
After performing in two Second City shows, Finn landed a role on CBS’ The George Wendt Show, playing Dan, who ran a car garage with George Wendt’s character. “I was flown out for a big interview, and I ended up getting the job on The George Wendt Show. It lasted about a year but George, Bernadette and I are still friends and he’s the godfather to my youngest son,” Finn said.
Finn is perhaps best known for his role as Bill Norwood on The Middle, which he played from 2011 to 2018. He also appeared on popular shows such as Seinfeld, That ’70s Show, and Friends. His film credits include Dude, Where’s My Car?, Love You, Beth Cooper, and It’s Complicated.
Finn married his wife, Donna, in 1990, and together they had three children. Reflecting on his life and career, he once told Phoenix in 2022, “I feel so fortunate, and it fits. It feels right.”
Pat Finn leaves behind a legacy of laughter and friendship that touched fans and colleagues alike. His work on television and film made him a beloved figure in comedy.
