Are ‘The Morning Show’ seasons connected? What’s the best order to watch them?
The seasons of ‘The Morning Show’ are most definitely connected. It mostly presents us with the linear chronology of the happenings for the morning show and its news anchors, producers, and technicians.
The show has a linear and basic timeline that strays from jumping from the present to the past, hence why the release date and chronological watch order make sense.
However, ‘The Morning Show’ first season is set during the #MeToo movement in Hollywood when thousands of women came out and exposed their abusers to the world. This event occurred in 2019, and since then, the show has the viewers pinpointed the timeline of the show and used the major real-life events to propel the story.
‘The Morning Show’ seasons in chronological order
As we already mentioned, the release date and the chronology within the show overlap, and now we will take time to summarize each season.
1. ‘The Morning Show’ Season One (2019)
The first season of ‘The Morning Show’ introduces the main character – a jaded but famous news anchor of “The Morning Show,” Alex Levy, her colleague Mitch Kessler, and a news correspondent, Bradley Jackson. The popular morning program, “The Morning Show,” is one of the most watched projects of the TV network UBA (United Broadcast Association), led by Fred Micklen and Cory Ellison.
The TV network ended up in a huge scandal when it was revealed that Mitch sexually abused a member of the TMS production, making already exhausted Alex even more troubled and “new blood,” Bradley Jackson, becoming a new face of the TV program.
2. ‘The Morning Show’ Season Two (2021)
The second season sees the UBA TV network changing their organization’s leaders and Cory Ellison becoming a new President, while Alex and Bradley are on different career paths after exposing their own network to the world.
Alex also deals with the ramifications of her not-so-ethical ways during her younger years, which heavily affects her now disgraced colleague, Mitch. Bradley is the new face of the UBA but with less success than her predecessor and former rival, Alex Levy. Moreover, Bradley deals with the family drama that heavily includes her brother Hal while also discovering her fluid sexuality with her older colleague and media person Laura Peterson.
With everything going on with characters’ personal lives, the global pandemic, COVID-19, hits the planet and starts killing thousands of people worldwide, putting “The Morning Show” workers in an even worse state. This season is set at the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic “put the world on hold” for two years.
3. ‘The Morning Show’ Season Three (2023)
Season three of ‘The Morning Show’ has recently started, with Apple TV+ releasing the first two episodes of the season. If the first two episodes don’t showcase otherwise, it seems that ‘The Morning Show’ will deal with even bigger issues after the COVID-19 pandemic, setting the show in March of 2022. Since we already saw topics about the presidential election and the #MeToo movement, it seems that the show will cover another major and, frankly, controversial topic of U.S. women’s rights and politics: Roe v. Wade – a landmark decision that was overturned in 2022, stating that right for abortion isn’t deeply rooted in U.S. history, limiting the women’s rights of choice.
This (in) famous moment in U.S. history is still heavily discussed even a year later since that happened, and it will be interesting to see how the Apple TV+ show will implement this event in their story. We already saw glimpses of it from the first two episodes.
Where to watch ‘The Morning Show’?
Since Apple TV develops the show, one can watch ‘The Morning Show’ on the Apple TV+ streaming platform, which releases episodes every Wednesday.
Will there be more seasons of ‘The Morning Show’?
In April of 2023, a few months before the season three premiere, Apple announced that season four is on the horizon and will eventually be released sometime in two years, at least what previous seasons’ release dates suggest. There are also talks of season five, especially if the show’s main stars, Aniston and Witherspoon, accept and sign new contracts with Apple.
Nevertheless, the show has a star-studded cast, and it seems that it embraced the chaos and full drama, which isn’t that bad of an idea to do. Whenever ‘The Morning Show’ took itself too seriously, the story fell flat, but chaos, drama, and borderline “soapy” atmosphere make for an intriguing future of this Apple TV+ TV series.
