‘The Mummy’ Remake Drops Terrifying New Trailer That’s Hard to Watch
A new version of The Mummy is on the way, and it looks nothing like the past films fans may remember. Blumhouse has released the first teaser, images, and poster for the upcoming remake, directed by Lee Cronin.
The project moves far away from the adventure style made famous by Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz and instead leans fully into horror.
According to information shared by Blumhouse, the film follows a journalist whose young daughter goes missing in the desert. Eight years later, she suddenly comes back. What should be a miracle quickly turns into something terrifying. The teaser suggests that whatever happened to her during those years unleashed something dark and ancient. The movie is set to arrive in theaters on April 17.

The short teaser sets a grim mood right away. It shows a body being unwrapped while someone documents the process with a camera. In the background, strange chanting plays and slowly grows louder. The images appear only for brief moments, but each one feels more disturbing than the last. As the chanting turns into screams, the teaser ends with a clear question on screen: “What happened to Katie?”

Cronin added more mystery by sharing a message hidden in Morse code along with the poster. The message read, “In ancient Egyptian civilization, dark spirits and visions of the dead were never an illusion. Some that passed over were gone forever, but an unlucky few were consumed by a darkness far more evil than anyone could have ever imagined. Today it begins.” This hints that the story will focus heavily on ancient curses and the cost of disturbing them.
Cronin explained that this version of The Mummy is a full reinvention. He described the film as a “puzzle box” story built on secrets and investigation. He also compared the tone to two very different movies. “It’s almost one part Poltergeist and one part Seven,” he said, adding that the mix comes from his love of family-centered stories and dark mysteries. He later explained, “When I talk about Poltergeist, I mean the family and warmth. When I talk about Seven, I mean the investigation and the hidden secrets.”
The cast includes Jack Reynor and May Calamawy in leading roles, with Laia Costa, Veronica Falcón, and others rounding out the ensemble. The film is produced by James Wan and Jason Blum and marks the first release under the merged Blumhouse and Atomic Monster banner, with New Line Cinema also involved.
The Mummy has gone through many versions over the years, from classic horror to action-heavy reboots. This time, the goal seems clear. Cronin wants to scare audiences in a much darker and more personal way. With the teaser already making waves, fans will soon find out how far this new vision is willing to go when the film hits theaters this spring.
