‘The Office’ Universe Expands: First Clip from ‘The Paper’ Released
Peacock has released the first clip from The Paper, the upcoming mockumentary sitcom set in the same universe as The Office. The new series, created by Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, follows a historic Midwestern newspaper as it tries to revive itself with the help of volunteer reporters.
The Paper is set in Toledo, Ohio, and focuses on the Toledo Truth-Teller, a struggling newspaper that a documentary crew decides to follow.
The series stars Domhnall Gleeson as Ned Sampson, the new editor-in-chief, and Sabrina Impacciatore as Esmeralda Grand. Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, and Tim Key also star. Notably, Oscar Nunez will reprise his role as Oscar Martinez from the original The Office, connecting the new show to the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin.

The show was first announced in January 2024, with Daniels developing a follow-up series to The Office. By March 2024, Daniels and Koman were officially announced as co-creators, and in May, Peacock gave the project a series order. Production began in July 2024, and in June 2024, the series was officially titled The Paper.
In interviews about the series, Daniels described it as “a new office with new characters, but still set in the same world as The Office.” The series is executive produced by Daniels, Koman, Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein, and Ben Silverman. Universal Television is handling production.
Casting announcements came throughout 2024. In April, Gleeson and Impacciatore were confirmed as leads. Later that year, the rest of the main cast joined, with Oscar Nunez announced in February 2025 as reprising his iconic role. Recurring roles include Allan Havey, Nancy Lenehan, Molly Ephraim, Tracy Letts, and others.
Peacock has confirmed that The Paper will premiere on September 4, 2025, with all 10 episodes available at launch. Fans were given their first look at the series with a newly released clip, showing the newspaper staff in action and teasing the mockumentary style familiar to The Office audience.
The series promises a mix of humor and workplace drama as the Truth-Teller tries to regain relevance in a modern media landscape. With ties to the beloved The Office universe, viewers can expect cameos, references, and the signature documentary-style storytelling that made the original series a hit.
