‘The Office’ World Grows with New Series ‘The Paper’ — First Look Released
Get ready for a new comedy from the creators of The Office. The upcoming show, called The Paper, moves away from the familiar paper company and puts the spotlight on an actual local newspaper struggling to survive today. It’s set to debut on Peacock on September 4, 2025.
The Paper is created by Greg Daniels and Michael Koman. While it’s a follow-up to The Office, it won’t bring back the Scranton crew. Instead, it features a new group of characters in a different place, but it still takes place in the same universe. NBCUniversal shared that the show follows the documentary team from The Office as they focus their cameras on a failing Midwestern newspaper called The Truth Teller, located in Toledo, Ohio.
The paper tries to keep going with the help of volunteer reporters.

The series stars Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore in the main roles, with Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei, Ramona Young, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Tim Key, and Eric Rahill also part of the cast. Fans will be happy to hear that Oscar Nuñez, who played Oscar in The Office, returns to play the same character in a recurring role.
Behind the scenes, the show has a strong team. Greg Daniels and Michael Koman not only created the series but also serve as executive producers. They are joined by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, who originally created The Office, along with Howard Klein and Ben Silverman.
The first season will be directed by familiar names like Paul Lieberstein, Jennifer Celotta, Matt Sohn, and Dave Rogers, as well as Yana Gorskaya and Jason Woliner.
The Paper was first hinted at in January 2024, when Daniels mentioned a new Office-related project was in the works. By March, Daniels and Koman were officially announced as co-creators. Peacock ordered the show in May, and the title was revealed in June. Filming started in July 2024.
NBCUniversal summed up the show’s story simply: “In Toledo, Ohio, a documentary crew focuses its efforts on The Truth Teller, a historic but declining Midwestern newspaper trying to resurrect itself with volunteer reporters.”
If you loved The Office’s humor and style, you’ll probably enjoy The Paper too. It brings fresh characters and a new setting but keeps the same mockumentary feel. Keep an eye out for more updates as the September 4 premiere approaches.
