‘The Pitt’ Season 2 Earns Near-Perfect Score, Critics Rave Across the Board
The second season of HBO’s medical drama The Pitt is getting rave reviews from critics ahead of its official premiere this Thursday. Early reactions have pushed the show to a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, though the rating has since adjusted to 94% based on 18 reviews.
Critics are praising the series for building on what made its first season a hit. Zach Pope called it “PERFECT so far” while Ben Gibbons from Screen Rant wrote, “Once again, The Pitt proves it’s uniquely positioned as one of the most intense and impactful medical dramas on TV thanks to a spectacular cast, fast-moving story, and the incredible realism built in.” Slant Magazine added that the new season is “another carefully calibrated tapestry of chaos and humanity.”

Other reviewers highlighted the show’s emotional depth and attention to small, meaningful moments. Therese Lacson of Collider said the series delivers “more heartfelt moments between the staff and their patients, more heart-pounding cases, and more surprise twists.” Alise Chaffins from Substack added, “Season 2 is focused far more on small acts of kindness,” while Katie Doll at CBR called it “a luxury with all the right bells and whistles.”
The Pitt has been one of HBO’s standout series, marking the network’s first original medical drama in over 20 years. Its first season gradually gained popularity, becoming one of the most-watched shows in the world and earning major recognition at the 2025 Emmys, including Best Drama Series, Best Lead Actor for Wyle, and Best Supporting Actress for Katherine LaNasa.
Season 2 maintains the show’s signature one-shift format, with each episode covering a single hour at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. This season includes a time jump to Fourth of July weekend, promising new challenges and unique medical emergencies, including firework-related injuries.
HBO has not officially confirmed a third season yet, though early success and positive critical reception suggest it is likely. Fans, however, have some questions about the show’s future following Netflix’s acquisition of Warner Bros. HBO Max boss Casey Bloys has reassured viewers that “The Pitt will be around for years,” but how the show fits into the larger streaming landscape remains to be seen.
Season 2 of The Pitt is shaping up to be an even more intense and emotional ride than the first. Critics are clearly impressed, calling the new episodes both thrilling and heartfelt. With strong performances and tight storytelling, the show seems poised to maintain its status as one of HBO’s best dramas.
