Noah Wyle has been having the kind of career resurgence most actors only dream about. More than 30 years after he first became a household name as Dr. John Carter on ‘ER’, the 55-year-old Los Angeles native has found renewed acclaim playing Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavich on ‘The Pitt’, a series he also directs.

The role has earned him a wave of accolades. Wyle won the Golden Globe for best actor in a television drama this year, and just a month ago he took home the Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a drama series, with ‘The Pitt’ also winning outstanding drama series.

Now Wyle can add a very different honor to his growing list. As Pop Crave shared, he has officially been named People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive, with the magazine unveiling his cover on October 27.

The cover, dated November 9, shows Wyle in a denim jacket against a sunlit backdrop, captured during a shoot at Deer Creek Ridge in Malibu. The tagline playfully nods to his medical roles, declaring that no second opinion is needed. Wyle succeeds ‘Wicked’ star Jonathan Bailey, who claimed the title last year. The tradition is now in its 41st year, dating back to Mel Gibson’s win in 1985.

The actor admitted the news caught him completely off guard. Speaking with People’s editor-in-chief Charlotte Triggs, Wyle said he initially assumed the announcement was a prank and never imagined the honor would come his way.

It was his wife, Sara Wells, who helped convince him he deserved it. Wyle explained that she was pleased the title reflected well on her taste and believes the kind of person, father and husband he is, is worth celebrating.

He added that Sara is amused by the whole thing. Wyle also expects some good-natured ribbing from family and friends about his new title. The win carries a fun connection to Wyle’s ‘ER’ days. His former co-star George Clooney was named Sexiest Man Alive in both 1997 and 2006, and the 2 actors were also featured together in a People issue celebrating the sexy men of ‘ER’.

Clooney had even campaigned for his old colleague earlier this year. At the AARP Movies for Grownups Awards in January, he joked that the organization should create a sexiest man still alive issue and said he would nominate Wyle first.

Wyle’s journey to this moment spans decades. During his original run on ‘ER’, he earned 3 Golden Globe nominations and 5 Emmy nominations without a win, making his recent awards success all the more meaningful.

His portrayal of Dr. Robby across the first 2 seasons of ‘The Pitt’ has introduced him to a new generation of fans. The show’s success has elevated him to a new level of stardom, and betting markets had made him the favorite to win the title ahead of the reveal.

Outside of acting, Wyle is a devoted husband and father. He married Sara Wells in June 2014, and the couple welcomed their daughter, Frances, in June 2015. He is also dad to sons Auden and Owen, whom he shares with ex-wife Tracy Warbin. His wife’s view of him as a good father and husband clearly played a role in how he came to embrace the honor.

Ahead of the big reveal, People announced the results of its readers’ choice poll, which drew more than 250,000 votes. Stephen Colbert was named Sexiest Silver Fox, while Travis Kelce took home Sexiest Cat Dad. But the top prize belongs to Wyle, whose win has been met with plenty of enthusiasm from fans of both ‘ER’ and ‘The Pitt’.

Do you think Noah Wyle was the right choice for People’s Sexiest Man Alive?
