When the 1998 Japanese horror film Ringu was published, it sparked an entire series, with multiple sequels, prequels, and American remakes. This is why we have decided to make this article to help you watch The Ring movies in order.

Ringu is most known for its frightening VHS video, which curses the viewer and kills them within seven days. The popularity of Ringu and its sequels in the early 2000s is mainly responsible for the J-horror craze. 

While the initial American remake stayed true to the narrative of the original Japanese film, as the franchise grew, their divergences became more pronounced. The Ringu series presently consists of sixteen films with a variety of storylines and a possible seventeenth film in development. Read on as I show you the best Ring watch order, including Ringu.

The Ring Watch Order at a Glance

There is no optimum order to watch The Ring franchise, although the best viewing order to watch is through the chronological order and then watch the TV show last. 1. Ringu (1998)

Following the murder of her cousin Tomoko, reporter Reiko learns of a film that kills anybody who watches it precisely one week later. She first dismisses the claims, but when she discovers that Tomoko’s buddy (who was also watching the video) died at the exact same moment, she launches an investigation. After seeing the tape herself, weird things begin to happen, and she partners up with her ex-husband to attempt to halt the ticking death clock.

2. Ringu 2 (1999)

Mai Takano is attempting to discover more about her professor Ryûji’s demise. She soon learns about a DVD that is plagued by the soul of a little girl named Sadako who died many years ago. According to legend, everyone who watches the tape will die of fear exactly one week later.

After some investigation, she discovers that Ryûji’s kid, Yôichi, is acquiring the psychic abilities that Sadako possessed throughout her lifetime. Mai now has to devise a strategy to prevent Yôichi and herself from becoming Sadako’s next victims.

3. Ringu 0: Birthday (2000)

The precursor to the horror film Ringu, this film details Sadako’s transformation into the furious murderous ghost. The narrative begins with her as a quiet, rather reclusive college student who joins a theatre club. The director believes she has potential, but some of the other actors get envious of the attention he lavishes on her.

Meanwhile, a reporter investigating Sadako’s spiritualist mother suspects the young lady of being highly suspicious and arrives on campus to face her just as a spate of mysterious deaths sweeps through the theater club.

4. The Ring (2002)

Rachel Keller is a journalist who chooses to go undercover to investigate the unexplained deaths of her niece and three friends, all of whom appeared to die at the same time- 10:00 PM- on the same day. 

After learning that her niece was discovered in a closet with a horrific expression on her face, she looks through her room and discovers some photographs, photographs of the cabin where her niece and her friends had spent the week preceding the killings. Rachel discovers the cottage and discovers an unidentified video inside. She chooses to watch it there, even though she now has a finite amount of time to live.

She and her divorced husband, Noah, conduct an investigation into the video to learn more about Anna Morgan and her daughter, Samara Morgan, the film’s creator. With barely a week remaining, Rachel and Noah uncover unknown details about Samara Morgan’s life and, maybe, a means to remove the curse.

5. Rings (2005)

This is a 16-minute short film that acts as a companion piece to The Ring Two (2005). Jake, a young teen, views a cursed video clip after joining a teen cult known as “Rings.” Join Jake as he witnesses the harrowing events surrounding Samara Morgan’s cursed tape.

6. The Ring Two (2005)

Rachel Keller and her son Aiden flee the city six months after meeting Samara and her murderous videotape to live in a small rural area where they believe they would be safe. 

Soon after they arrive, Rachel learns about a local college student who died in circumstances identical to those of Samara’s other victims. Aiden’s life looks to be in jeopardy once more from Samara, and Rachel must explore the little girl’s background if she is to save her son.

7. Rings (2017)

On a flight to Seattle, a guy confesses to having viewed Samara Morgan’s cursed videotape. Another passenger confirms that she, too, has seen the tape and inquires of the man whether he made a duplicate. Samara forces the flight to crash after discovering he did not.

Gabriel Brown, a college lecturer, purchases a VCR two years later in 2015 and discovers the recording inside.

Meanwhile, Julia, a student, sees her boyfriend Holt off to college but becomes anxious when he loses communication. She is motivated to track him down when a distraught girl, Skye, calls her inquiring about Holt’s location. Julia meets Gabriel and discovers the Sevens, a group of people participating in an experiment utilizing the cursed DVD.

The group films itself viewing the video before passing it on to another individual, dubbed a “tail”.

8. Ring: Kanzenban (1995)

Four young and seemingly healthy persons die unexpectedly of heart failure in various districts of Tokyo at precisely the same time. Kazuyuki Asakawa, a reporter, decides to investigate the deaths and learns that the four had stayed at the same remote in just a week before. 

At the inn, he discovers an odd movie that concludes with a message warning that everyone who views it would perish precisely seven days later. Asakawa’s time is running out. Is he capable of breaking the curse in time?

9. The Ring Virus (1999)

After her niece and three other adolescents mysteriously died at the same time and with signs of a heart attack, the journalist Sun-Ju resolves to explore their final moments.

She reveals that the four companions had just finished watching a DVD one week before they died in a resort. She gets to the location and discovers the lethal video; after seeing the strange film, her phone calls.

When she snaps a photograph of herself, she notices that her image is blurred in the same manner that the adolescents’ images were. She copies the cursed cassette and gives it to her acquaintance, the suspicious coroner Choi Yeol. 

They search for a clue together and discover that it was recorded by telekinesis by Eun-Suh, a psychic girl who vanished years ago. When Sun-small ju’s daughter views the film, Sun-Ju becomes even more motivated to solve the riddle to rescue her kid and her own life.

10. Spiral (1998)

This was the first sequel to “Ringu,” and it opens with Dr. Andô, a pathologist, examining Takayama’s body. Andô begins his investigation after discovering a cryptic letter in Takayama’s stomach. He soon discovers a mystery DVD haunted by the soul of a slain lady.

According to reports, anybody who views the video would perish precisely one week later. Andô, depressed by the death of his own kid and certain that he is being directed by his friend’s spirit, chooses to view the film for himself. Strange things begin to happen around him after he watches the tape, and he quickly finds that the tape’s restless spirit has other intentions for him.

11. Sadako 3D (2012)

Akane is a high school teacher who learns through her students that there is genuine footage of someone committing suicide on the Internet. According to reports, the film compels anybody who views it to commit suicide as well. 

Akane first dismisses the story, but when one of her female pupils dies as a result of seeing the film, she and her boyfriend Takanori are dragged into the nightmare caused by the guy seen in the suicide footage, Kashiwada.

Kashiwada’s goal is to wreak havoc on the globe by resurrecting Sadako and the curse’s power. Now Akane must battle Sadako and Kashiwada to rescue her and Takanori’s life.

12. Sadako 3D 2 (2013)

Fuko Ando (Miori Takimoto) is a 24-year-old psychology graduate student. She is charged with the responsibility of caring for her 4-year-old niece. Soon after, weird occurrences begin to unfold around her niece. She then hears about a five-year-old occurrence involving a cursed DVD. Fuko Ando becomes entangled in the cursed video.

13. Sadako vs. Kayako (2016)

In this movie, the vengeful spirits of the Ring and Grudge series face off. Two furious spirits are pushed into a fight when two teenage girls are afflicted by conflicting curses.

Natsumi has only two days before she is slain by the demonic monster Sadako after seeing a cursed videotape. Sadako’s only hope is to set her against Kayako, a terrifying spirit that resides in a haunted mansion.

14. Sadako (2019)

Mayu works as a psychologist in a hospital. She is caring for a girl who has amnesia. She is being escorted by police and is of particular interest. Yet few understand why, and the girl herself is blissfully unaware. 

She begins counseling a young woman who is being shielded by the police. The young lady has no recollection of anything, even her own name. Around May, mysterious cases began to occur.

Mayu’s younger brother Kazuma, on the other hand, is a YouTuber. He desires increased viewership and decides to infiltrate a burned-down location where five people perished. 

15. Ring: The Final Chapter (1999)

Asakawa is a reporter. He is witness to a bizarre motorcycle accident. He then learned that his niece Tomoko died unexpectedly of heart failure the same day as the motorcyclist. As a result, he chooses to visit the cottage where Tomoko and three of their pals were staying. Then he locates and watches a videotape. The curse is still active at the moment.

16. Rasen (1999)

Mitsuo Ando is a high school teacher who lost his son Takanori a year earlier, drowned at the beach, in a sequel to the television series “Ring: Final Chapter.” His wife suffered a nervous collapse and is now in a mental institution, with no memory of the tragedy and the belief that their kid is still alive.

A former student of his is the sole survivor of a strange office building mass murder in which all of her coworkers died of heart attacks simultaneously.

She has no recollection of the incident and is considered a main suspect by the police. Ando teams up with a friend and an ex-student who is now employed with the Scientific Police to establish her innocence.

They uncover a CD-Rom in the workplace that may have been the cause of the murders since it likely contains a digital version of Sadako Yamamura’s cursed tape, the viewer of which would perish after 13 days.

Meanwhile, Mai Katano is told that Sadako is attempting rebirth by the late Ryuji Takayama. She can detect the presence of the deceased psychic and assists Ando in their investigations.
