The Rising of the Shield Hero: Who Is Rat? Meet Ratotille Anthreya, the Eccentric Alchemist!
The Rising of the Shield Hero is a very interesting isekai series that does its best to show what fantasy looks like from a Japanese perspective. There are numerous interesting characters in the series. While we could discuss each of them, in this article, we will talk about one character introduced only recently to the anime series but who has become very popular. The character in question is known as Rat, but her full name is Ratotille Anthreya. in this article, you will find out everything you need to know about this eccentric alchemist from The Rising of the Shield Hero.
Ratotille Anthreya’s story in The Rising of the Shield Hero is quite interesting
As far as her story is concerned, Ratotille Anthreya definitely has one of the more interesting stories in The Rising of the Shield Hero, which explains why she is such a popular character (okay, her looks and personality might play a role there as well, but she really is a character with a great story!) among the fans. In this section, we are going to present her story to you.
So, Rat, as she is better known, comes from the Antherya family, a family that descends from the genius alchemist Holn Anthreya, so it is not strange that her whole family has been dealing in alchemy for ages. They are all quite skilled, and all of this explains why she is so enthusiastic about her line of work, as well as why she is so skilled – she simply has a natural talent for it.
She was initially based in Faubrey, where she worked with the genius Takt. Takt was a specialist in mechanics, while Rat was a specialist in monsters. While they did work together for a while, when Takt became corrupted and saw in her a rival, someone who could match his skills, he simply kicked her out so that she would not be a competition to him.
Her initial goal then was to research the Spirit Tortoise, but when she heard about the Shield Hero and his BioPlant, she changed her plans and met with him. She offered him her services for free under the condition that he allowed her to do research along the way, which he accepted, but she had to become one of his slaves (remember, this is not a bad thing when Naofumi is concerned – he treats them all with respect).
And this is how they met. She used her skills when monsters were concerned on more than one occasion, helping tame and defeat various creatures that Naofumi’s party encountered on their travels, proving that she is one of the most skilled and valuable members of the party. On top of that, she has also done a lot of research – as per her deal with Naofumi – researching the ecologies of Siltvelt and Q’ten Lo. She also created a modified version of the BioPlant.
This is her story in short. We are now going to skip the unnecessary spoilers and are going to tell you a bit about her personality and her skills and abilities in the series.
Her personality is best perceived through her work
Now that you know her story, it would only be fair if we told you a bit about her personality and her skills and abilities, which is how we’re going to close off this article.
Now, the title of this section suggests that Rat’s personality is closely related to her work, and that is both true and false. Of course, her being an alchemist doesn’t influence her personality, but her personality is best observed when she is working, so it can be said that her work and her personality are related, at least up to a point. Namely, she is very intelligent and curious, which is why she often gets excited when she has the ability to work with something new or analyze materials for her work.
Her big ambition is to create a giant monster using alchemy, and she detests repeating something that has already been done. Although she is by all means not a bad person, Rat is so focused on her work that she can seem rude and impolite, as she has no boundaries or respect for social etiquette when her work is in question. This makes her a complex and flamboyant character, but that is why people like her so much.
And, while we’re on the topic of her work and her skills, she truly is a very skilled alchemist; we cannot deny that. She is extremely skilled, which is why Naofumi made her his chief alchemist, and she even said that Takt had kicked her out because she was a rival to the genius alchemist. Monsters are her specialty, and she is able to create and modify them using alchemy and magic. She is also a very skilled researcher, which enables her to constantly grow as a scientist in the series.
She is able to use various spells, and she has also managed to craft several special objects, all of which confirm that Rat is, indeed, a very skilled alchemist who deserves the attention we have given her.
