Dwayne Johnson surprised fans by sharing a rare photo from his childhood, and the internet quickly reacted.

The actor, known worldwide as The Rock, posted the image on Instagram to mark the start of the New Year. The throwback photo shows Johnson as a teenager in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is shirtless, wearing only sweatpants, and sporting a hairstyle that many fans found shocking, since he has been bald for decades.

Johnson revealed in the caption that he was just 13 years old when the photo was taken. He used the post to send a New Year message to his followers and joked about his look at the time. “13 years old. Honolulu, Hawaii. 1 amateur afro. 2 fugazi gold chains. 2 breasts desperately in need of a training bra. There’s hope for everyone. Happy New Year, friends 🥂,” he wrote.

The post quickly went viral. Many fans said they could not believe how grown-up he looked at such a young age. Some joked that he looked closer to 30 than 13. Others simply praised him and called him a legend. The comments section filled up fast with reactions from surprised followers.

Outside of social media, Johnson continues to stay busy with major film projects. In 2025, he appeared as former MMA fighter Mark Kerr in the sports drama The Smashing Machine, directed by Benny Safdie.

The role was a major shift for him and required heavy makeup and a wig to change his appearance. Johnson later said the role allowed him to show a more personal and emotional side of himself. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival and received strong praise, even though it struggled at the box office.

Looking ahead, Johnson is set to return as Maui in the live-action version of Moana in 2026. He also has several serious projects lined up, including films with directors Martin Scorsese, Darren Aronofsky, and J.J. Abrams.

Seeing where Johnson started and where he is now makes his message feel real. His post reminds people that everyone starts somewhere, even global superstars. What do you think about The Rock sharing this childhood photo? Did it surprise you? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
