The latest, the second season of Netflix’s popular fantasy series The Witcher premiered last month, exactly two years after the series first premiered. Now, it seems like Netflix isn’t ready to wait another two years to offer us the third season, which was announced ahead of the second season’s premiere.

Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich revealed last year that the third season has been written and that cast and crew are already preparing to go back to the set. The production of the third season is set to begin very soon, and executive producer Steve Gaub now offered the first images from the set, before the season even began production.

Gaub revealed that the preparation for filming the third season is a go, writing on Instagram that the crew is currently scouting locations for filming, where the cast members — Henry Cavill, Freya Allan, Anya Chalotra, Joey Batey, etc. — will shoot the first scenes soon.

The Witcher is based on a series of novels by Andrzej Sapkowski. Sapkowski‘s fantasy world spawned the series of video games developed by CD RED Projekt. The latest game — The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — was released in 2015. The game won the Game of the Year award and it’s considered one of the best video games ever.

Netflix has launched the whole franchise on the streaming service thanks to Sapkowski’s work. The original series premiered in December 2019, animated movie The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf was released last August. While the fans are waiting for the third season of the original series, we are also set to watch the spin-off limited series The Witcher: Blood Origin, which will land on Netflix sometime this year.
