The Working Title for Marvel Studios’ Upcoming X-Men Reboot Reportedly Revealed

With the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, the X-Men and mutants are finally being integrated into the MCU in a meaningful way. While mutants have appeared in previous projects and Professor X and Beast featured in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and The Marvels, the X-Men were not properly referenced.

However, as Kevin Feige has confirmed, the era of mutants has officially begun, with a live-action X-Men reboot on the way that will focus solely on the iconic team.

Michael Lesslie has been hired to write the script for the new X-Men movie, and reports suggest he proposed an ‘X-Men ’97’ lineup.

Recently, sources revealed the working title of this X-Men reboot: “Chunnel.” A working title is a temporary name used during development. Sometimes, it hints at the story’s direction, and other times, it’s just a placeholder. In this case, “Chunnel” might give a clue about the movie’s plot.

The Chunnel is a tunnel that connects England and France. It appeared in Marvel Comics only a few times. Interestingly, it’s most relevant to the X-Men in a story from New X-Men #129-130. In this storyline, a character named Fantomex seeks help from the X-Men after stealing info about the Weapon X project.

The Chunnel is the site of a battle involving Fantomex, Charles Xavier, and Jean Grey against dangerous creatures. This might hint that Fantomex could play a part in the reboot.

The X-Men reboot doesn’t have a release date yet and virtually nothing is known about the movie but some recent reports claim that Marvel is considering Colman Domingo, known for his role in Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man, to play Professor X. It’s also mentioned Daisy Edgar-Jones, famous for Twisters and Fresh, as a strong candidate for Jean Grey.
