‘Titanic’ Heartthrob Returns to the Spotlight and Fans Cannot Believe How He Looks Now
While Leonardo DiCaprio was the undeniable face of the 1997 blockbuster Titanic, many fans have recently set their sights on a different member of the cast. Actor Danny Nucci, who portrayed Jack Dawson’s loyal best friend Fabrizio, has become the subject of a viral resurgence as viewers crown him the film’s true heartthrob.
The conversation was sparked by pop culture commentator John Wallison, who shared a recent photo of the actor and noted that he has aged exceptionally well. Fans quickly flooded the comments to agree, with some stating that they always found the Italian sidekick to be more beautiful than Leonardo.
Others were even more direct, claiming that Fabrizio was cuter than Jack and that he was the character they were truly rooting for during the doomed voyage. The sentiment has gained significant traction on platforms like Reddit, where users have praised Nucci’s classic features and enduring charm.
In the film, Fabrizio is the enthusiastic young man who wins his ticket onto the ship during a last-minute poker game alongside Jack. Although he is a fan favorite today, Nucci has previously shared that his role was originally much more substantial before the final edit.
The actor admitted he was completely heartbroken during the film’s premiere when he realized how many of his scenes had been removed. However, after a second viewing, he was able to appreciate the massive scope of what director James Cameron had achieved with the production.
He also recalled the reality of filming the iconic King of the World scene, which was far less glamorous than it appeared on screen. Nucci explained that he and DiCaprio were freezing on a giant platform, hungry and needing to use the restroom, while trying to look like the happiest we have ever been.
In the finished movie, Fabrizio meets a tragic end when he is struck by one of the ship’s massive smokestacks while trying to swim to safety. An alternate scene, which was filmed but ultimately cut, featured a much darker death involving the villainous character Cal, played by Billy Zane.
In that version, Fabrizio attempts to board a lifeboat, only to be struck with an oar by Cal, who tells him that America is that way. Nucci eventually agreed with the decision to remove the scene, noting that it felt repetitive to keep emphasizing how awful Cal’s character was.
Since his time on the ill-fated vessel, Nucci has maintained a prolific and varied career across both the big and small screens. He has landed roles in major action films like The Rock and Crimson Tide, as well as popular television series such as 9-1-1, Castle, and The Rookie.
One of his most recognizable modern roles was in the long-running Freeform drama The Fosters, where he played Mike Foster for five seasons. Most recently, he has continued his streak of guest appearances on high-profile procedurals like 9-1-1 and the CW’s Dynasty revival.
As the 30th anniversary of Titanic approaches in the coming years, the actor continues to embrace his legacy as one of the ship’s most beloved passengers. Whether he is playing a gritty detective or a charming sidekick, his versatility has ensured he remains a staple of American entertainment.
