Tom Brady Reveals His Dog Junie Is a Clone of His Late Dog Lua
Tom Brady has revealed that his current dog, Junie, is actually a clone of his late pet, Lua. Lua, a pit bull mix, passed away in December 2023.
Shortly after her death, Brady, who shares custody of the dog with his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen and their children, welcomed Junie into his home. Nearly two years later, he confirmed that Junie was cloned from Lua.
Brady shared the news on Tuesday, November 4, alongside an announcement from Colossal Biosciences, a biotech company he has invested in.
Colossal worked with Brady to create the clone. The same day, the Dallas-based company announced that it had acquired another biotech firm, Viagen Pets and Equine. Viagen is known for cloning celebrity pets, including Barbra Streisand’s dog Samantha and Paris Hilton’s Diamond Baby.
According to a press release obtained by PEOPLE, Viagen has “exclusive licensing and access to the breakthrough technologies” developed by the Roslin Institute of Edinburgh, the lab famous for cloning Dolly the Sheep in the late 1990s.
Brady explained that Lua was cloned using blood collected before her passing. “I love my animals. They mean the world to me and my family,” he said. “A few years ago, I worked with Colossal and leveraged their non-invasive cloning technology through a simple blood draw of our family’s elderly dog before she passed.”
He added, “The company gave my family a second chance with a clone of our beloved dog. I’m excited how Colossal and Viagen’s tech together can help both families losing their beloved pets while helping to save endangered species.”
Brady’s announcement shines a light on the growing field of pet cloning, which combines advanced biotechnology with emotional connections to pets. Junie now serves as a living reminder of Lua for Brady and his family, made possible through innovative cloning technology.
