Tom Cruise 63, Seen Getting Friendly With Sydney Sweeney 28, at Governors Awards

Tom Cruise and Sydney Sweeney were seen talking together at the Governors Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, where Cruise received an honorary Oscar.

Variety shared a video showing the two smiling and chatting during the event. Cruise, 63, looked sharp in a black tuxedo, while Sweeney, 28, arrived in a shimmering dress and styled her short blonde hair in soft curls.

Sweeney and Cruise spoke for a while, though no one knows what the conversation was about. Cruise later stepped on stage and gave an emotional speech about his long connection to filmmaking.

Variety reported his words, including, “The cinema, it takes me around the world… So making films is not what I do, it is who I am.” He talked about discovering movies as a child and how that first experience opened his imagination. He said it sparked a desire to explore the world and tell stories, something he has followed ever since.

The award was handed to him by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who is directing Cruise in a new film set for release in 2026. Cruise has been nominated for Oscars before, but this was his first time receiving an honorary award. Sweeney has not yet been nominated, but her career has been growing quickly.

Cruise’s appearance at the event came shortly after news of his split from actress Ana de Armas. Us Weekly reported that the breakup happened a few weeks earlier. According to the outlet, a source said the relationship moved too fast for de Armas and she became uncomfortable. The source explained that the decision was hers and added that she still likes Cruise and that the two have strong chemistry. The insider also suggested that they might reconnect in the future, depending on how things go.

Sweeney posed on the red carpet earlier in the night before joining the event inside. She completed her look with silver earrings and simple makeup.

Their brief moment together at the Governors Awards drew attention online, especially as both actors are currently in high-profile moments in their careers.
