Tom Felton Offers New Draco Malfoy Guidance on Harry Potter Set – ‘Here’s My Phone Number’
Tom Felton recently shared that he felt it was “really important” to reach out to Lox Pratt, the young actor taking on the role of Draco Malfoy in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter television series.
Felton, who portrayed the character in the original film franchise from 2001 to 2011, is currently reprising an adult version of Draco in the Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
During a guest appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Felton confirmed that he followed the lead of his former co-stars by sending a welcoming note to the new generation of wizards.
The veteran actor explained that he made contact with Pratt to offer support, acknowledging that the pressure of joining the franchise today is far different from what it was twenty-five years ago.
He emphasized that he wants to be a resource for the young performer and his family without overstepping or dictating how the role should be played. Felton remarked on his approach to the situation, stating, “I’ve sent word, yes. I think it’s really important. It’s very different — we were entering things that don’t exist; there’s quite a lot of weight now.
So the last thing I’m gonna do is offer anything other than say, ‘Here’s my phone number. Here’s my address.’ To his parents as well as him, and to anyone else there.”
While Felton is avoiding giving specific acting notes, he did offer some lighthearted advice about enjoying the unique experience of being on a major production. He suggested that the new cast should focus on having fun and documenting their time on set, while also joking that they should keep a few souvenirs.
He shared his encouraging perspective by saying, “Have as much fun as possible, take as many pictures as you can, steal as many props as you can — they’ll be worth a fortune. But also, if you do need a word of encouragement or questions to ask, I’m there.” The conversation also touched upon the technological shift in filmmaking since Felton’s time at Hogwarts, noting that the original movies were shot on physical film in an era before social media.
He recalled the vastly different atmosphere on set, where veteran crew members would smoke while the young actors performed stunts on broomsticks. Felton marveled at the fact that he and Daniel Radcliffe are now performing on Broadway simultaneously, just a short walk from one another.
He spoke fondly of their proximity in New York, stating, “Of course, Daniel Radcliffe’s play is only 400 meters from mine. I’m playing Draco, he’s opening what I think is one of the best shows on Broadway other than ours.” Felton’s current run as the adult Draco Malfoy at the Lyric Theatre has been extended through May 10, marking a historic full-circle moment for the franchise.
Meanwhile, Daniel Radcliffe is starring in the solo show Every Brilliant Thing at the nearby Hudson Theatre, a limited engagement scheduled to run through May 24. The upcoming HBO Harry Potter series, featuring Lox Pratt alongside Dominic McLaughlin as Harry and Alastair Stout as Ron, is currently in production and targeting a Christmas Day premiere.
