Tom Felton Stuns Broadway as Draco Malfoy Returns in ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’
Tom Felton made a huge splash on Broadway when he stepped back into the role that made him famous, Draco Malfoy. The actor, best known for playing the snarky Slytherin in the Harry Potter films, received an explosive welcome from fans as he appeared in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child for the very first time.
The crowd erupted in cheers and screams the moment Felton walked on stage. For a full half-minute, the applause didn’t stop.
He stood there, smiling and soaking it all in before finally delivering his first line: “I need a favor.” The magical moment was caught on camera and shared on the official Instagram page of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The post was playfully captioned with a line from the original Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone: “It’s true then, what they’re saying on the train.”

Set almost two decades after the events of the main Harry Potter series, The Cursed Child follows the next generation, the children of Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Draco, as they begin their own adventures at Hogwarts.
The play first opened in London in 2016 and later made its way to Broadway in 2018, but this marks the first time a cast member from the film franchise has joined the stage production.
Felton’s involvement was first announced back in June, and fans have been buzzing ever since. The British actor is set to stay with the show for a 19-week run. Speaking about his return, Felton told reporters it was a deeply emotional experience. “It’s very, very easy to get emotional,” he said. “When they put my blond wig on for the theater production, I just immediately cried. It was just sort of like a blast from the past.”
He also talked about how different it feels to play an older version of Draco. “As much as it is reprising an old role for me, it’s very much treading into new, unfamiliar territory,” Felton explained. “I know him quite well as a kid. I don’t know him that well as an adult.”
With his return to the wizarding world, Felton has managed to bridge the gap between the original films and the ongoing stage story, giving fans a powerful dose of nostalgia. Judging by the reaction of the Broadway audience, it’s clear that the magic of Draco Malfoy, and Tom Felton hasn’t faded one bit.
