Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, or SSU, continues its expansion, and the film that kickstarted it all, ‘Venom,’ released in 2018, is gearing up for its second sequel in 2024, featuring Tom Hardy reprising his role as the beloved Symbiote. This summer, anticipated productions, particularly in the superhero realm, faced delays due to the longest SAG-AFTRA strike in Hollywood history, spanning 118 days.
Both the SSU and MCU were temporarily halted, with numerous projects awaiting development. However, after the strike concluded, favorable agreements were reached, and it was announced that ‘Venom 3’ would resume production, now with a new release date scheduled for November 8, 2024. Tom Hardy himself confirmed the resumption of production through a heartfelt and extensive Instagram post.
The Last dance – thankfully we are back to shooting; and I want to take a moment just to thank all the teams thus far on the ride from V1 to here all our fantastic Cast and crew- good friends and family – we’ve come a long way – it’s been and continues to be a lot of fun this journey there’s always hard turns to burn when we work but doesn’t feel as hard when you love what you do and when you know you have great material and the support at all sides, of a great team.
Hardy dubbed the film as ‘The Last Dance,’ potentially serving as the title for the yet-to-be-named ‘Venom 3,’ or it could signify his departure from the Venom role, considering his initial commitment to three Venom movies.
Even if this marks the conclusion of the SSU Venom saga, the Symbiote has officially entered the MCU, courtesy of mid-credits scenes in ‘Let There Be Carnage,’ where a fragment of the Venom symbiote is left in the MCU and starts to show activity.
2024 is slated to be a bustling year for Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. The year kicks off with the release of ‘Madame Web’ on February 14, 2023, and in the summer, fans can anticipate the much-awaited ‘Kraven the Hunter’ movie, set to hit theaters on August 30, 2024.
Amidst these developments, rumors circulated about a potential merger between the SSU and MCU. If true, it might not signal the last dance for Hardy after all.
