Tom Hiddleston on Playing Loki Again in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’: “It Always Feels New”

Tom Hiddleston is officially stepping back into Loki’s boots for Marvel’s upcoming movie Avengers: Doomsday, which is set to hit theaters in December 2026. The actor confirmed the news in a recent interview with Men’s Health, making it clear that Loki’s story isn’t over just yet.
While Hiddleston didn’t go into detail about what Loki will be doing in the film, or which other characters he’ll interact with, he did confirm his return. “You are correct in that I will appear in Avengers: Doomsday. That I can confirm. And that I’ll be working opposite some other actors in that film, that I can confirm. I can’t tell you which actors,” he said.
Loki has been part of the Marvel world for over a decade, first showing up in Thor back in 2011. He started out as the main villain but has gone through a lot since then—switching sides, dying, returning, and eventually starring in his own Disney+ series.
The second season of Loki ended with the character taking on a powerful new role as the “God of Stories,” giving him control over the timelines in the multiverse. That moment turned him into one of the most important characters in the MCU right now.
Hiddleston said that playing Loki still feels fresh, even after all these years. “I have loved playing Loki. Loki’s been a companion for a long period of my adult life… it never feels like the same experience. It always feels new, and this one will be new in its own way. I’m grateful that I’m still on the team.”
Avengers: Doomsday is expected to bring together a long list of big names from across Marvel’s films. Alongside Hiddleston, fans can look forward to seeing Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, and more. One surprise is the rumored return of Robert Downey Jr., but not as Iron Man. Reports say he’ll appear as Doctor Doom, adding a big twist to the upcoming movie.
This film is also expected to pull in characters from the old X-Men films and other Marvel projects, making it one of the largest crossovers Marvel has ever done. With Loki holding such a key position in the multiverse, it’s no surprise he’s right in the middle of the action.
Marvel fans who’ve followed Loki from his earliest days to now are likely thrilled. It’s rare to see a character grow this much over time in a superhero universe. With Avengers: Doomsday, Hiddleston’s Loki could be more important than ever.
Personally, I think this is a great move by Marvel. Loki has always been a standout character, and bringing him back with such an important role shows how much fans and creators value him.
