Tom Holland Reveals Marvel Already Has A Full Plan For His Spider-Man Exit
Peter Parker has been through a lot on screen over the past decade, but the man behind the mask is clearly thinking just as much about what comes after his time in the suit. As ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ finally swings into theaters as his fourth solo outing, Tom Holland has spent the promotional run fielding one question more than any other, and that is what happens when he eventually hangs up the webs for good.
It is a topic Holland has circled for years, often walking back an old comment about not wanting to play the role past 30. He turned that age earlier in 2026, and rather than treating it as a deadline, he has increasingly framed his future as Spider-Man around legacy and succession instead of an exit date.
Now the actor has confirmed just how far along that succession plan actually is. Speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast ahead of Brand New Day’s wide release, Holland confirmed that discussions about setting up a new Spider-Man have been happening behind the scenes since before the movie even started production. The comments were highlighted in a post from DiscussingFilm, which quoted Holland saying he has a really clear vision for passing on the baton and finds the idea genuinely exciting.
Holland revealed the groundwork for this transition dates back even further than fans might expect, tracing all the way to right after ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ wrapped. According to the actor, the plan is laid out, though he acknowledged it will likely change before it actually happens. He went as far as calling the handoff the thing he wants to do most with this character.
Much of the speculation around who inherits the mantle points toward Miles Morales, a character teased as far back as ‘Spider-Man Homecoming’ through Donald Glover’s Aaron Davis. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has previously described that transition as something close to inevitable for the franchise, and Holland himself sounds fully on board with eventually mentoring whoever steps into the role next rather than simply walking away.
This is not the first time Holland has spoken about wanting to leave ‘Spider-Man’ on his own terms. He told The Hollywood Reporter that there is a certain stigma attached to fourth installments of any franchise, and that part of him wants to walk away with his head held high and pass the torch to the next actor who gets to bring the character to life. Paired with his new comments to Horowitz, it paints a picture of an actor who has clearly made peace with his eventual departure long before it happens.
For now, Holland remains committed to the role for as long as Marvel and Sony want him, but the fact that a real succession plan reportedly exists changes the conversation. It is no longer a matter of if Spider-Man gets passed on, but how and to whom.
