Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-Man’ Sequel Is Tracking Toward A Box Office Record Nobody Saw Coming
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is barreling toward theaters, and the buzz around Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing as the wall crawler has been building for weeks. The film reunites Holland with Zendaya and Jacob Batalon in a story that picks up years after the emotional gut punch of ‘No Way Home’, when Doctor Strange erased the world’s memory of Peter Parker.
Just a few weeks ago, industry trackers were pegging the film’s domestic opening in a fairly modest range, somewhere between 180 and 190 million dollars. That number would already have been considered a strong showing for any Marvel release, but it has since climbed dramatically as more concrete presale and premium format data rolled in.
According to a post from the account MCU Film News, citing industry tracker World of Reel, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is now reportedly projected to earn 345 million dollars domestically in its opening weekend. That figure would make it the second highest domestic opening in box office history, trailing only ‘Avengers: Endgame’. World of Reel reported that the current ceiling for the film sits at that 345 million dollar mark, crediting the tip to EmpireCity Box Office and suggesting Sony is poised to deliver the biggest opening weekend in the studio’s history.
Not every outlet is echoing quite that high a number. ComicBook.com reported that Global Box Office on X had the film projected between 260 and 300 million dollars domestically, citing a “massive spike” in pre-sales since the previous weekend. Box Office Pro’s own long range forecast, meanwhile, has been more conservative, placing the domestic opening weekend range between 230 and 250 million dollars. Even that lower estimate would comfortably make ‘Brand New Day’ the biggest opening of the year.
The spread in projections makes sense given how far the film has come from earlier estimates, and Forbes noted the film would not be playing in IMAX venues domestically, since those screens remain committed to Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ for a three week run. The film is also locked out of IMAX screens in China for its first two weeks there, which makes the scale of these projections even more notable, since it is reportedly hitting these numbers without one of the biggest tools studios typically lean on for a blockbuster debut.
The plot finds Peter Parker four years removed from ‘No Way Home’, living entirely alone after voluntarily erasing himself from the lives and memories of the people he loves. Fighting crime full time in a city that no longer remembers him sparks a change in Peter that he may not have the power to control, one that becomes the only thing capable of stopping a new threat that nobody can even see. The cast rounds out with Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, Michael Mando as Scorpion, Sadie Sink in an undisclosed role, and Mark Ruffalo returning as Bruce Banner.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ swings into theaters on July 31, 2026, under the direction of Destin Daniel Cretton.
