Toni Braxton (58) Forced To Stop Show Amid Personal Emergency
Toni Braxton recently had to step away from the stage before her scheduled performance in Minneapolis could reach its conclusion. The 58-year-old R&B legend is currently traveling as a special guest on the New Edition Way Tour, alongside Boyz II Men, which stopped at the Target Center on Sunday, March 22.
While she usually delivers a high-energy nine-song set, fans were left concerned when she exited the show earlier than expected. The singer took to her Instagram Stories the following day, March 23, to express her regret and clarify the situation for those in attendance.
“My loves, I am so sorry I wasn’t able to finish the show last night. I had an unexpected personal emergency and had no choice but to step away,” she explained to her followers.
She went on to share how much she valued the audience’s support, adding, “You deserved my everything, and I hate that I couldn’t give it to you. I feel your love from here. Thank you for understanding.”

While the specific details of the emergency remain private, the Grammy winner has been candid in the past about the physical toll that touring takes on her body. Since being diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus in 2008, she has navigated several health scares, including a serious heart surgery in 2022.
During her 2024 Las Vegas residency, she admitted to feeling a sense of nervousness about the demands of live performance while managing a chronic condition. To stay healthy on the road, the mother of two focuses on finding a balance between her professional commitments and her physical well-being.
“I just try to pace it. Pacing is very important, and if I feel like I’m overdoing it, I know to take a break,” she previously remarked. Despite her best efforts to maintain a disciplined routine, she has noted that the stress of a major tour can sometimes be difficult to recognize until it becomes overwhelming.
The singer’s professional life remains busy, as she recently starred in the Lifetime original movie Toni Braxton’s Breathe Again, which premiered in January. The film is the second installment of a multi-picture partnership with the network and follows three women navigating life and friendship after a reality show heartbreak.
She also serves as an executive producer on these projects, which are often inspired by her own iconic musical catalog. On the home front, her relationship with rapper Birdman has continued to make headlines throughout the past year.
Reports surfaced in April 2025 suggesting the pair had secretly wed in August 2024, only for a brief divorce filing to be withdrawn shortly after. As of this year, the couple is still legally married and continues to support one another’s various creative ventures in music and film.
Fans remain hopeful that the singer will be able to rejoin the lineup for the final leg of the tour once her personal situation is resolved. For now, the focus remains on her recovery and well-being as she navigates this latest hurdle in her storied career.
