A leading Hollywood agent has revealed that fewer actors are chasing roles in Marvel films compared to just a few years ago.

Speaking to Variety, the agent explained how the demand has shifted. “Joining the MCU is still a crazy, life-changing opportunity,” they said, “but I don’t have as many clients asking to do one as they were five years ago.”

The change comes at a time when Marvel is struggling at the box office. In the past year, three of its big releases failed to reach the numbers of earlier films and only managed small profits, not including their heavy marketing costs.

On top of that, Marvel’s push to make a constant stream of Disney+ shows left audiences feeling overwhelmed. The result has been franchise fatigue, with many viewers no longer feeling like they need to see every release to keep up with the story.

As one studio executive put it, “The standalone movies are in trouble, because you feel like you can miss it now.”

Marvel is now scaling back its output, and many in the industry believe the two upcoming Avengers films will still be major successes.

But the buzz around solo projects has dropped, and the brand doesn’t seem as unstoppable as it once was. One director summed it up: “Any movie could be huge, but nothing is close to a guarantee.”

The MCU once felt like the top goal for any actor, offering fame and global recognition. But after years of nonstop content and declining returns, even agents say the excitement has cooled. The opportunity is still valuable, but it’s no longer the dream job it used to be.
