A new teaser for “Toy Story 5” has been released by Entertainment Weekly, giving fans a first look at the next chapter in the long-running Pixar series. The film introduces a brand-new character named Blaze, who is voiced by Mykal-Michelle Harris.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Blaze is a young girl who lives on a ranch and plays a key role in the story. She crosses paths with Jessie and Bullseye after they end up at a house connected to Jessie’s past. The setting brings the story back to a familiar place from earlier in the franchise.

Harris described her character by saying, “I would describe Blaze as a spunky, funky, equestrian horse girl. She was raised on a ranch with her family, and she’s never afraid to be herself. She’s an older kid, but she’s not afraid to play with toys or to have a whole bunch of horse figurines. That’s kind of her thing.”

The story begins when Bonnie, now older, is introduced to a smart device called Lilypad. This device is meant to help her connect with others, as many kids around her are spending more time on screens. Jessie then sets out on her own mission to help Bonnie find real-world connections, but things do not go as planned, and she ends up far from home.

Blaze later finds Jessie and Bullseye and quickly bonds with them. Harris explained how that connection forms, saying, “Blaze finds Jessie and Bullseye after a series of unfortunate events, and she immediately takes a liking to them. She obviously loves Bullseye because he’s a horse, and she loves Jessie as a cowboy. She immediately uses her in her playtime, and they have an instant connection, an instant bond. It takes a little bit of time for Jessie to like Blaze, but they do end up forming a connection.”

The film also introduces new toys living around Blaze’s home, including a training gadget, a GPS toy, and a toy camera. At the same time, the story mixes old and new characters as Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the group return once again.

Harris also spoke about how meaningful it is to revisit the roots of the franchise. She said, “It’s amazing being able to be back at the very first house. The very first Toy Story was 30 years ago. They just had their anniversary last year. So I think that coming back to where everything began is such a nostalgic feeling because, at this point, there are almost four or five generations that have been introduced to this movie.”

“Toy Story 5” is set to release in theaters on June 19.

This movie seems to be focusing a lot on nostalgia while also trying to bring in new ideas with characters like Blaze. It could be a good mix if done right, but it will depend on how well the story balances old and new elements. What do you think about this new direction and the introduction of Blaze?
