Netflix has released the first trailer for The Rip, a tense action thriller that reunites Matt Damon and Ben Affleck on screen. The film, directed and written by Joe Carnahan, is set to premiere on January 16, 2026.

The story follows a group of Miami police officers who stumble upon millions of dollars in hidden cash. The massive discovery sparks suspicion within the team and draws outside attention, forcing everyone to question who they can really trust.

Damon plays Lieutenant Dane Dumars, while Affleck takes on the role of Detective Sergeant JD Byrne. They are joined by Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Néstor Carbonell, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Kyle Chandler, Scott Adkins, and Lina Esco, who plays Captain Jackie Velez.

The project has been in the works since 2024, when it was announced Damon and Affleck would star and produce through their company Artists Equity. Netflix later acquired distribution rights after the film was shopped to studios. Production started in Los Angeles in October 2024 and wrapped in December, with additional filming in New Jersey.

Carnahan, known for films like Smokin’ Aces and The Grey, brings his signature gritty style to the story. In the trailer, Damon and Affleck’s characters are seen navigating high-stakes confrontations, intense shootouts, and a growing sense of paranoia as loyalties break down.

With Damon and Affleck’s proven chemistry and Carnahan’s flair for crime drama, The Rip is already building strong buzz ahead of its release.
