CBS has finally dropped the first trailer for Sheriff Country, the much-talked-about Fire Country spinoff starring Morena Baccarin. The show will follow Baccarin’s character, Mickey Fox, who was first introduced in season 2 of Fire Country during the backdoor pilot episode “Alert the Sheriff.”

In that episode, viewers got a first taste of Mickey’s no-nonsense style as the Edgewater County Sheriff’s Sergeant. Now she’s stepping into her own series, and from the trailer alone, it’s clear she has her hands full.

In the trailer, we’re dropped straight into the action as Mickey is trying to defuse a dangerous situation by appealing to her familiarity with a criminal.

The scenes quickly shift to small-town drama, a mix of crime investigations, family disputes, and long-buried secrets. Mickey’s complicated personal life is just as messy as her work life. She’s still dealing with strained family ties, including old tensions with her sister Sharon, played by Diane Farr. Fans may remember that Mickey once arrested Sharon’s son Bode, which didn’t exactly help their relationship.

The trailer also teases some of Mickey’s more personal challenges. She’s managing her father’s marijuana farm and trying to support her daughter, who’s been struggling with addiction.

All of that is happening while she’s taking charge as the county’s new sheriff. Sharon gives her a moment of encouragement in the trailer with the line, “You are Edgewater’s finest,” but there’s no ignoring the baggage between them.

Unlike Fire Country, which often focuses on large-scale emergencies and high-intensity action, Sheriff Country seems to lean into smaller, more personal stories. Michele Weaver, who plays Mickey’s deputy Cassidy, told Us Weekly, which also premiered the trailer, that the show is intentionally taking a different approach. “It’s not as catastrophic necessarily. It’s more about people issues. What’s really exciting is seeing the dynamic between the citizens of the city that we already know and love — in a new way.”

That doesn’t mean there won’t be action. The trailer shows glimpses of tense police work, confrontations, and emotional confrontations. But at its core, Sheriff Country seems more about the people of Edgewater than the disasters they face. It’s about relationships, trust, and how personal history can shape a community.

Production on the show started in May 2025 in Toronto, a change from the Vancouver setting of Fire Country. The move was made so Baccarin could be closer to her family in New York. By the time cameras rolled, twelve scripts were already written, setting up a packed first season.

The cast includes Matt Lauria, Christopher Gorham, Michele Weaver, and W. Earl Brown, alongside returning Fire Country actors like Diane Farr.

Sheriff Country premieres October 17, 2025, on CBS, airing right before Fire Country on Friday nights. For fans of the original series, it’s a chance to dive deeper into the world of Edgewater County , and see Mickey Fox take the lead in her own story.
