[Trailer] ‘Only Murders in the Building’ Season 5 Trailer Drops New Suspects and Hints at Mob Mystery in Doorman’s Death

The hit series Only Murders in the Building was renewed for a fifth season back in September 2024, with the new episodes set to premiere on September 9, 2025. Recently, a new trailer and poster for the upcoming season were released, giving fans a fresh look at what’s coming next.

The cast has grown even more impressive. Melissa McCarthy joined in May 2024, followed by Keegan-Michael Key, Christoph Waltz, and Renée Zellweger in March 2025, though their exact roles haven’t been revealed yet. April 2025 brought Logan Lerman and Beanie Feldstein into the mix. Filming for this season took place between March and June 2025.

The new trailer starts with a police report stating that Lester’s death was accidental, but Charles, Oliver, and Mabel aren’t buying it. They know something’s off. Having already helped solve four murders, these three are back at it with their podcast, Only Murders in the Building.

Everyone agrees Lester’s death is suspicious. Their investigation leads them into some dark parts of New York City and beyond. They find themselves caught in a web of secrets involving wealthy billionaires, old-school mobsters, and strange neighbors in the Arconia, like Howard Morris, played by Michael Cyril Creighton.

The mob connection looks important. The trailer reveals Lester had a confrontation with mobsters on the night he died. Detective Donna Williams, played by Da’Vine Joy Randolph, helps guide the trio when a mysterious finger is found at the crime scene. Will that clue help them catch the killer?

The trailer also shows off many new guest stars making their first appearance this season. These include Bobby Cannavale, Renée Zellweger, Christoph Waltz, Beanie Feldstein, Dianne Wiest, Logan Lerman, Jermaine Fowler, and Keegan-Michael Key. Téa Leoni returns as Sofia Caccimelio, introduced at the end of season four. Sofia is the wife of Nicky “The Neck” Caccimelio, a missing person connected to the Caputo crime family. The trailer hints at a possible affair between Charles and Sofia, which certainly adds drama.

Fans will also see familiar faces from past seasons. Nathan Lane returns as Teddy Dimas, Richard Kind reprises his role as Vince Fish, and Meryl Streep is back as Oliver’s wife, Loretta Durkin. It’s still unclear if Paul Rudd, who appeared in seasons two through four, will come back.

The new season will drop three episodes on premiere night, with new episodes coming out weekly on Tuesdays on Hulu.
