The horror returns as the trailer for Return to Silent Hill has finally been released, teasing Pyramid Head and other terrifying figures ahead of the film’s January debut. This new movie is the third installment in the Silent Hill film series and is based on the classic video game Silent Hill 2.

Christophe Gans, who co-wrote and directed the film, brings back his signature dark and psychological style, with Jeremy Irvine and Hannah Emily Anderson leading the cast.

Return to Silent Hill was first announced in October 2022, and filming took place in Germany and Serbia from April 2023 to February 2024.

The movie is set to hit theaters in the United States on January 23, 2026, through Cineverse and Iconic Events Releasing, according to official reports.

The story follows James Sunderland, who is devastated after losing his soulmate. When he receives a mysterious letter, it draws him back to the eerie town of Silent Hill. But the town has changed, twisted by a malevolent force.

As James ventures deeper, he encounters terrifying figures, both familiar and new, and struggles to understand what is real. “He tries to stay strong enough to rescue his beloved,” sources say.

The cast includes Jeremy Irvine as James Sunderland, Hannah Emily Anderson as Mary, and Evie Templeton as Laura. Interestingly, Templeton also performed the motion capture and voice for Laura in the remake of the Silent Hill 2 game.

Christophe Gans has been working on new screenplays inspired by Silent Hill and Fatal Frame since 2020. Speaking to French magazine Allocine, he said he wanted the series to feel more like an anthology, similar to The Twilight Zone, where each story could explore a different psychological side of the town.

Gans described the film as being influenced by P.T., the playable teaser for the cancelled game Silent Hills, and worked closely with Konami to design a fresh look for the monsters, including Pyramid Head. “The film takes inspiration from P.T.,” Gans said.

Principal photography spanned several locations, including Belgrade and German cities such as Munich, Penzing, Nuremberg, and Lake Ammer.

The production was financed by Davis Films and Ashland Hill Media Finance and received €1 million from Germany’s FFY Bayern media funding program. In a February 2025 interview, Gans noted, “I finished the film ten days ago. It was supposed to be finished in April 2024, but because of the executive producers, it dragged on and I finished it this January.”

With the trailer now out, fans can get a first look at the horrifying world of Silent Hill, promising tense scares and psychological terror. Return to Silent Hill is shaping up to be a chilling revival of the beloved video game series, ready to hit theaters next January.
