Some Hollywood returns are announced with fanfare, and some simply happen one casting notice at a time. Over the past 2 years, Jessica Alba has gone from a long stretch away from acting to a slate stacked with films across nearly every genre. The latest Jessica Alba photos circulating online arrive right in the middle of that reset.

Her visibility has been climbing steadily through the fall. She attended Paris Fashion Week alongside Naomi Watts, Uma Thurman and Sarah Snook at the Zimmermann show, and her Instagram has become a reliable source of red carpet and night-out content for her 21.9 million followers.

The images making the rounds this week fit that pattern. Complex shared a set of photos she posted to Instagram on October 21, showing her in a black dress with a ruffled neckline and a striking green gemstone pendant.

The styling connects to a recent high-profile appearance. On October 17, Alba attended the sixth annual Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles wearing a custom gown by Tamara Ralph Couture, a look built around a hand-pleated organza neckline, a smoke-like train and a distinctive gemstone pendant.

The gala has become one of the more fashion-forward nights on the calendar, drawing actors, musicians and designers for an evening celebrating film history. It was a busy carpet, with Hailey Bieber among the other attendees in custom Chanel.

What makes the renewed attention notable is the work behind it. Alba hadn’t acted on screen since 2024’s Netflix action thriller ‘Trigger Warning’, which she executive produced and which debuted at No. 1 on the platform.

The gap is now firmly over. She joined Netflix’s reboot of ‘ 13 Going on 30’ alongside Emily Bader, Logan Lerman and Adeline Rudolph, with Jennifer Garner executive producing and Brett Haley directing from a script by Hannah Marks with revisions by Flora Greeson. Her role and the logline are being kept under wraps.

Director Haley has been open about the pressure. He told Deadline that the original is one of those rare, perfect films, adding that as a longtime fan, stepping into the reimagining carries tremendous responsibility.

The variety across her upcoming projects is striking. She’s set to lead ‘The Fun Lady’, a comedy based on the true story of Linda Brewer, playing Mora, a former hometown golden girl who retreats to small-town Arkansas after her life falls apart and becomes a sex toy seller.

Alba is producing that one alongside writer Mark Steilen. She said in a press release that telling Brewer’s story of reinvention and believing in oneself was a journey she found incredibly relatable.

Elsewhere, she’s attached to ‘The Mark’, Justin Chadwick’s spy thriller in which she plays an enigmatic operative named Eden, and ‘Maserati: The Brothers’ opposite Al Pacino, Anthony Hopkins and Andy García. Also on the list are ‘A Tree Is Blue’, Dakota Johnson’s directorial debut, the series ‘Confessions on the 7:45’ and ‘Incógnito’.

The acting slate is only half the picture. Alba has been expanding her work as a producer through her company Lady Metalmark Entertainment, something she discussed at length during an In Conversation session at the Red Sea International Film Festival.

She also revealed she’s reuniting with her ‘Sin City’ director Robert Rodriguez on what she described as a fun action movie, a family dramedy inside a heist movie with an all-Latino cast. She said she and Michael Peña pitched it to Rodriguez themselves, and that they were taking it to studios.

For an actress best known to a generation as Sue Storm in the 2000s ‘Fantastic Four’ films, the current chapter looks deliberately varied. The photos may be what’s trending, but the slate behind them is the actual story.

Which upcoming Jessica Alba project are you most excited to see?
