Two Big Film Series Set for Video Game Adaptations
Lionsgate has confirmed that a new video game based on the John Wick movie franchise is officially in the works.
Adam Fogelson, from Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, revealed during a November earnings call that the company is exploring multiple gaming projects tied to its major film properties.
Fogelson told Tech4Gamers, “Our AAA game opportunities and other gaming opportunities around John Wick and Saw and some others that we’ll be announcing soon.” He added that development is progressing as planned and that Lionsgate has noticed growing interest in turning its film franchises into games.
John Wick, starring Keanu Reeves, is a popular action series about a retired hitman who is pulled back into the criminal underworld. Known for its highly choreographed fight scenes and intense action sequences, the franchise has become a fan favorite for its stylish visuals and relentless pace.
The property previously had a small-scale game in 2019 called John Wick Hex, a tactical RPG that acted as a prequel to the films. The upcoming project is expected to be a larger, AAA production.
Fogelson also mentioned Saw, Lionsgate’s long-running horror franchise. The series centers on the villainous Jigsaw and his deadly games designed to test people’s will to survive. Fans can likely expect the game adaptation to capture the series’ tense, puzzle-based horror and psychological challenges.
Lionsgate first discussed the idea of a big-budget John Wick game back in 2023, but updates were scarce until now. The confirmation suggests the project is moving forward and could become a major release for both movie and gaming fans.
Adapting John Wick and Saw into video games makes a lot of sense. Both franchises have clear worlds, strong characters, and action or suspense that could translate well into interactive experiences. Fans of the films may get a chance to experience the stories in a new, immersive way. What do you think about these movies turning into video games? Share your thoughts in the comments.
