Two Exciting DCU Films Moving Forward, Says James Gunn
The DC Universe under James Gunn is moving fast. Since the reboot began last year with the animated series Creature Commandos, the franchise has already seen several releases.
This summer, fans got the live-action Superman movie, and Peacemaker Season 2 is nearing its finale after a shocking twist in episode six, titled Ignorance is Chris.
Several other projects are also underway. Supergirl is in post-production, and Clayface is currently filming. Gunn is also preparing Man of Tomorrow, set to begin production in April 2027. Other titles like The Authority, The Brave and the Bold, Swamp Thing, and an untitled Wonder Woman film are in development.
On top of that, DC is working on a Teen Titans project, a Bane and Deathstroke movie, and even a Sgt. Rock adaptation.
In a recent interview with GQ, Gunn shared some updates on the next wave of DC projects. He revealed there are two film scripts he is particularly excited about. “Right now, there’s actually two really cool film scripts that I’m hoping to take to the next level that we have general plans for, and I’m excited about both of those,” he said.
Gunn also mentioned one TV project he is eager to see greenlit. “And then I’m excited about one TV project in particular. I don’t know why we’re not greenlighted on that already—it’s just figuring out the budget. So there’s a couple of things that are very present that I’m excited about.”
He added that managing ongoing projects is a big part of his work. “Dealing with getting Supergirl into shape, all these other things. Watching episodes of Lanterns—that’s coming along well. So, it’s really just dealing a little bit with everything and then mostly Man of Tomorrow. That’s the biggest thing for me. I mean we go into production in April, so it may seem like far away to you, but to me, it seems awful close.”
It’s clear that Gunn has a lot on his plate, balancing multiple films and TV projects while building the DC Universe.
Gunn is juggling so many projects and planning new stories, the mix of familiar characters and fresh ideas could make the DCU more dynamic than ever. What do you think, should the focus be on classic heroes like Superman, or should new characters take the spotlight? Share your thoughts in the comments.
