What Vin Diesel is for Fast & Furious, that’s what Tom Cruise is for Mission: Impossible, and both of these action franchises are set to have a conclusion presented through two final movies. With the Fast & Furious franchise set to conclude with the 10th and 11th installments, Mission: Impossible will conclude with the 7th and 8th, and now, we got the official title for both of these final movies.

As Variety learned, the seventh installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise is now officially titled Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, and therefore the eighth and final installment will be titled the same, but as Part Two, of course.

Using the same title on two final parts isn’t something unusual in modern Hollywood. Harry Potter, Twilight, and The Hunger Games are only some of the examples of the franchises in which the last two movies had the same title; Part 1 as the penultimate and Part 2 as the final installment. Avengers: Infinity War and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse were also initially set to follow the same example, but Part 2s of these movies were later renamed Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, respectively.

Mission: Impossible franchise kicked off in 1996 with the original movie based on the 1966 TV series of the same name. To this day, we got six installments, and Tom Cruise starred in and produced all of them. The latest installment, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, was released in 2018 and it grossed $791.1 million worldwide.

Christopher McQuarrie, who directed the last two installments, Rogue Nation and Fallout, is back to direct this two-part conclusion starring Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Henry Czerny, and Cary Elwes.

With a reported budget of $290 million, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is one of the most expensive movies ever made. It is set to be released on July 14, 2023, after it was delayed several times due to production delays caused by the pandemic of COVID-19. Dead Reckoning Part Two is set to be released on June 28, 2024.
