With Batgirl and Blue Beetle already in pre-production, another DC HBOMax exclusive is officially in development – a Superman movie featuring Val Zod – Superman from Earth-2 of the DC Multiverse.

It was reported a while ago that Michael B. Jordan will produce this film, and Deadline confirmed now the project is moving forward with Darnell Metayer and Josh Peters as screenwriters. Many fans stated that they would love Jordan to play Val Zod, but it is still unclear who will portray the titular role.

Val Zod is a BIPOC Kryptonian whose story is almost the same as Clark Kent’s. He’s also escaped from the doomed planet Krypton and found refuge on Earth. He once had to fight a brainwashed Superman in the comics. Now that we think of it, that would be an amazing storyline to adapt.

Darnell Metayer and Josh Peters were confirmed as screenwriters for the movie. Their latest project was Transformers: Rise of the Beasts which is set to be released next June.

It is unknown if the Val Zod will be set in the DCEU or it’s gonna be part of a different timeline. But we all know DC Multiverse is gigantic, and that actually every past or future DC project is a part of that huge Multiverse.

There is no word on when can we expect the project to debut yet.
