Jeb Stuart, creator and showrunner of the spin-off series revealed how it’s not needed to know what happened in the original series to follow this one, but fans of the original series will certainly recognize some known names and locations.
“As a fan of Vikings and a student of that particular type of history, you do know that Rollo really was part of the founding of Normandy, and Emma of Normandy comes over and becomes one of my main characters, and William the Conqueror is a descendant of Rollo. We’d love to be able to get to that part of the story and get to that place that Michael did say you stop and you turn and nostalgically look back at the Viking era.” — Jeb Stuart for Entertainment Weekly
Stuart co-created Valhalla with Michael Hirst, creator of the original series. Valhalla is starring Laura Berlin as Emma of Normandy, Sam Corlett as Leif Eriksson, Bradley Freegard as King Canute the Great, Frida Gustavsson as Freydís Eiríksdóttir, Caroline Henderson as Jarl Haakon, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Olaf the Holy Haraldsson, etc.
The first season of Vikings: Valhalla will premiere on February 25 on Netflix.
