With less than two weeks until the release of Venom: The Last Dance, the final film in the trilogy promises big additions to the SSU, including the introduction of Knull, one of Marvel’s most powerful and dangerous villains.

As the release date nears, new details are emerging, particularly about the movie’s rating. Fans had hoped the first Venom film would receive an R-rating, but it ultimately landed a PG-13 rating instead.

Producer Matt Tolmach hinted at the possibility of an R-rating for Venom: Let There Be Carnage, following the success of R-rated comic book films like Joker (2019), Deadpool (2016), and Logan (2017).

However, he stressed that the PG-13 rating of the first Venom had proven successful at the box office, and they weren’t looking to change the franchise’s tone just because it worked for other films. Ultimately, the sequel remained PG-13.

Now, with the third installment approaching, could the rating finally change? While hopes for an R-rating are slim, there’s some speculation, especially considering the film’s UK rating.

The upcoming Venom threequel has been rated “15” in the UK, which is roughly equivalent to an R-rating in the U.S., though it strictly limits viewers to those aged 15 and above, with no exceptions.

In the U.S., those under 17 can watch R-rated films with an adult, while most superhero movies in the UK get a 12A rating, allowing children under 12 to attend with supervision. An “18” rating is rarely used.

And yes, both Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage were rated 15 in the UK, so this likely won’t make much of a difference.

Based on the teasers, we can expect plenty of action, and with Knull in the mix, there’s hope for an R-rating, though it seems unlikely.
